About the role

Our new Software Engineering Senior Manager @Connectivity department will coordinate and manage a team responsible for designing, implementing and testing software solutions high end, embedded automotive Telematics systems.

He/She coordinates the relationship with System Test external partners, as well as with various teams inside HARMAN.

He/She provides strategic guidance to his/her teams and managers in ways that promote HARMAN culture and will be responsible for delivery and overall success of each program, by supervising and reporting the progress and performance.

What you will do

  • Plans the work of the department/team involving deadlines, milestones and
  • processes to be followed;
  • Evaluates and monitors department/team’s performance, determining the needs for improvements;
  • Applies change, risk and resource management principles when needed;
  • Identifies ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people;
  • Analyzes reports prepared by his/her managers to determine progress and issues;
  • Full responsibility in system and component architecture and design; provides High-Level Design Documents (HDD) and Detailed Design Documentation (DDD) for the system/components under his/her responsibility;
  • Reviews HDD and DDD and verifies them against product features, insuring Requirements Traceability Matrix;
  • Provides impact analysis for design changes;
  • Analyze malfunctions in terms of time response, stability, robustness of components, as well as of the entire system;
  • Mainly act as an expert/consultant of the specified area – advices internal/external customer with best-practices;
  • Acts as mentor or coach for less experienced engineers;
  • Act according the standards of the automotive industry and in-car applications and software development processes;
  • Directs and coordinates requirements and resources with CBUs and CPMs;
  • Interfaces on high-level to customers to ensure customer requirements are met;
  • Full P&L Responsibility for all SW efforts within the customer programs, Secondary P&L responsibility for global Functions;
  • Ensure that the functional team’s managing outsourced work/projects as needed based upon technical requirements and resource constraints;
  • Oversees and continuously optimizes development and release processes to ensure bets quality products;
  • Responsible to deliver quality software on time and within budget globally;
  • Develops a pipeline of talent and continuously coaches and develops engineering leaders in their expertise;
  • Develop process improvements (tailoring) to achieve cost effectiveness and time saving;
  • Support to analyze and assess customer specifi cations; develop components based on this information;
  • Take care about communication between team members and project management;
  • The quality of software components is according with standards specifi ed in BMS;
  • Act according the standards of the automotive industry, in-car applications and software development processes;
  • Support to evaluate change requests from customer and identify the risks;
  • Balance the team members across programs in an effi cient way;
  • Responsible for the people reporting to him/her and the working conditions in the department.

What You Need

  • Multiple years of experience in software development using agile methods;
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or other relevant (IT connected) specializations;
  • Good knowledge of C++ proved by 5+ years of experience;
  • Expert knowledge in project management and coordination in a globally distributed development environment;
  • Proven leadership skills: dealing with diffi cult people, negotiation, conflict mediation and resolution;
  • Solid embedded and real-time applications development experience;
  • Strong Linux expertise;
  • Strong UML, Design Patterns and Linux system analysis expertise;
  • Strong knowledge in inter-process communication, multithreading, networking;
  • Expert knowledge in software engineering;
  • Experience in real-time embedded software and system development;
  • Knowledge of requirements definition and management;
  • Knowledge of problem resolution management;
  • Knowledge of configuration management rules and tools;
  • Knowledge of risk management;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of process models (e.g. Automotive SPICE®, CMMI);
  • Working knowledge of software development processes;
  • Experience in working with (external) customers/OEMs;
  • Self-driven, autonomous and systematic way of working and able to help other achieve this;
  • Analytical skills and good system understanding in the embedded SW area;
  • Very good interpersonal skills, ability to present status to both technical and non-technical persons;
  • Ability to train and coach engineers;
  • Good English communication skills both written and verbal;
