About the Role

Harman’s Car Audio SBU is the global leader in the design and manufacture of OEM Branded Audio systems. Headquartered in Novi, Michigan, Harman maintains a network of Product Development Centers in Germany, China, Japan, Mexico, and India.  

The Senior Acoustic Engineer, Pre-Development will work with global cross-functional teams and the customers. This position will support activities with acoustic engineering, transducer engineering, mechanical engineering, and resident engineering teams in the development of system architectures for vehicle programs with our Japan OEM customers in the pre-development phase.


What You Will Do

  • Support in acoustic domain for pre-development programs.
  • Apply, design, and organize audio systems for the virtual automotive environment.
  • Ensure that best practices and requirements are followed.
  • Support development of customer specific system architectures in concert with customer and Harman teams.
  • Closely collaborate with a team specializing in early-phase vehicle development.
  • Work closely with customer and Harman teams to track all audio system targets and to evolve acoustic system proposals through the pre-development phase of a program with the goal of finalizing system architecture at the end of the pre-development phase.
  • Proactively demonstrate proposals, concepts and field questions in the acoustic domain.
  • Backup pre-development and customer engineering team colleagues as needed.
  • Identify and propose proactive solutions to current customer issues.
  • Recommend continuous improvements to product / platform management processes.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Acoustics is required. Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in an audio related field is required; 8+ years of experience is strongly preferred.
  • Specific experience required in 3 or more of the following fields: acoustic engineering, transducer engineering, digital signal processing, electrical or amplifier engineering, psychoacoustics and recording arts.
  • Detailed knowledge of and ability to model acoustic systems/vehicles.
  • Customer facing experience.
  • Desire to work within a global cross-functional team.
  • Language: Japanese + English Languages.
