About the Role

The HW APQP Engineer functions as an Advanced Product Quality Planning coordinator for product/process for ensuring successful and high-quality solutions in the Connect Car Division. Responsible for organizing, monitoring, and supporting all product/ process and for leading and organizing cross-functional program team members in the planning and implementation of product/process with a focus on processes which relate to successful HW and SW integration.  This includes FMEA, product reliability forecast, 8-D, design reviews, and lessons learned from warranty defects and overall product lifecycle execution.


What You Will Do

  • Member of the quality organization within NA programs (Software focused with understanding of Hardware, Manufacturing) and ensure adherence to Harman Business Management System (BMS) Product Lifecycle Management processes within the NA programs.
  • Define and execute the Quality Plan in accordance with organizational BMS and ASPICE standards for large programs.
  • As the HW APQP, the role is responsible for Design FMEA tracking with internal engineers and customers.
  • Champion Function Block Analysis (FBA) processes.
  • Work with the warranty team on tracking root cause, process improvements in design and architecture.
  • Interface with Industrialization, SQE and manufacturing quality to interface one voice to the customer reporting.
  • Working with Plants to ensure DFMEA and PFMEA coordination.
  • Coach engineering teams in best practices in all areas of the product lifecycle, with a focus on successful SW and HW integration.
  • Moderate HW/SW architectural review meetings.
  • Plan and schedule cross functional activities worldwide in different regions.  Activities include maturity level reviews, preparation for customer audits, assisting project team with process adherence, gap resolutions and successful project execution
  • Manage, execute, and track quality activities in projects to achieve targets for time, cost and quality; in case of deviations drive escalations at different levels internal and external and track to closure.
  • Coordinate quality impacting decisions and / or escalations on program side between all parties.
  • Drive the organization at Harman and customer, together with the quality counterpart at customer, to achieve successful hardware and software integration Coordinate and assure Harman quality requirements to customer.
  • Conduct scheduled reviews with the appropriate process owners.
  • Implement quality gates for any/all deliverables that go to custom.
  • Review all appropriate documentations, processes & results applicable, related to these projects and if needed organize audits to get a visibility about the status.
  • Ensure that Harman PLM processes lessons learned, and best practices are understood and effective in practice.
  • Maintain and understand all internal and external requirements.
  • Address audit findings and assure proper action plans.
  • Set up, track, and analyze metrics to come up with action items to fix gaps.
  • Collaboration with other regional quality teams and global teams to ensure process adherence across organization.
  • Contribute towards organizational process definition/updates.
  • Analyze existing embedded software to add features, make modifications, fix bugs, and/or port to different platforms.
  • Participates in internal and customer driven design reviews throughout program.
  • Coordinates software development activities in support of the software team leader
  • Communicate with peers inside the Harman group to coordinate software development. This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups.
  • Works with the customer to further define requirements and to resolve issues.

What You Need

  • Bachelors Degree in Enginering (ME, EE) or related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in Automotive Quality and Program Management in similar programs
  • Good understanding of Software development lifecycle and methodologies.
  • Experience in leading customer escalations.
  • Thorough knowledge of management systems, at least one of CMMi or Automotive Spice. Other standards such as ISO/TS16949 are desirable.
  • Ability to moderate and understand FMEA and 8-D best practices.
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
