About the Role

The VP Engineering Leader HW+ will be the single horizontal lead within SBU Connectivity covering all Hardware and Base Software needs, including, Hardware (Design, Mechanical, RF, Certification and Qualification) and Base Software (Drivers, Radio Interface Layer, Security and OS)  for all modules (NAD, WIFI, BT, GNSS, V2X), TCU, Antenna, OBU and RSU. You will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, development, and execution of hardware engineering initiatives within the automotive SBU Connectivity. This role requires a seasoned leader capable of driving innovation, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of cutting-edge hardware solutions that contribute to the advancement of automotive connectivity technologies.               

This role requires deep -rooted technical acumen and the leadership ability to drive and foster a positive culture aligned with our Automotive and company principles, in the context of a fast growing Business Unit.  

Your Team

This position will have around 10 direct reports including  Director, Sr Director, Sr Principle Engineers & Distinguished Architects levels. The role overseas over 120 engineering professionals located in US, Europe, India and China.

What You Will Do

The key responsibilities of the role include:

Support business growth with engineering proficiency

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive hardware engineering strategy aligned with the goals and objectives of the Automotive Connectivity SBU.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the hardware engineering team, setting clear goals and objectives while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Set-up strong standards & processes that enable the organization to scale while remaining efficient & maintaining flawless delivery of programs.
  • Manage team set-up and workload distribution to respond to growing needs of the customer and anticipate business trends. Develop skills needed for future product pipeline. Anticipate and deploy support for customers globally.
  • Develop and maintain an effective core assets (reusable building blocks) management to increase engineering efficiency and reduce time-to-market.

Develop deep technical expertise

  • Define and drive the technology roadmap for hardware development, identifying key trends, emerging technologies, and opportunities for innovation within the automotive connectivity space.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in hardware design and development.
  • Be the technical expertise voice to SBU leadership team by understanding how HW+ supports the overall SBU strategy & objectives.
  • Develop an effective Cost leadership & total value contribution model.
  • Develop and maintain technical partnerships with leadership peers of key tech players.
  • Drive innovation and challenge the status-quo. Work collaboratively to find novel and clever solutions that provide differentiation to our customers.

What You Need

  • Masters degree or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, wireless communications engineering or equivalent
  • 15-year leadership experience in product development in the field of Automotive Electronics including IVI, ADAS, Connectivity, Central Compute Units and/or related fields.
  • Solid & recognized proficiency in Hardware Design including HW Architecture, Mechanical Design, thermal management, and foundation software.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English in technical and business context, both verbally and in writing
  • Effective experience in managing multinational engineering teams and domains, incl. Load balancing, skills management and talent development.
  • Successful experience in handling large program execution for simultaneous automotive electronic programs, through the complete product development lifecycle
  • Experience in NPI/NPD processes (new product introduction or development), engineering resources management, and engineering process implementation such as CMMI, Agile and SPICE
  • Deep understanding of automotive electronics, embedded systems, hardware design methodologies, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to align technical innovation with business objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to accurately understand large project scope and estimate the resource needs.
  • Ability to drive innovation through collective intelligence and partnerships.
  • Absolute cost focus and ability to deploy cost leadership standards.
  • Experience in Budget Planning and Tracking.

  • Expertise in Wireless and TCU (telematic control unit) Technology
  • Expertise in NAD (network access devices) & NAD Module design
  • Expertise in MNO (mobile network operator) and V2X (vehicle-to-everything) Certifications
  • Expertise with on-board battery, active thermal management, EMC, high frequency, UWB and Antenna technology
