Position Summary:

The Sr. Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Test is responsible for all test development to support the launch of products globally that are designed in North America.  The AME test engineering team is involved in the early phases of new products to provide RFQ support to determine capital and labor estimates and also drives design for manufacturing test strategy to ensure the new product will be able to hit quality and cost targets.  Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, AME Test, the group will develop a comprehensive test strategy from board level to end of line including product flashing to industrialize a new product. Industrialization includes the determination of manufacturing test processes required to produce the product and requires development of new test equipment, product specific fixtures and test software to support high volume manufacturing. As an minor part the job holder will participate and sometimes lead global commonality teams to define test best practices and common test methods.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct reports may include people with any level of technical expertise through all levels of test engineering and direct report managers.  The number of direct reports for the position is typically 5 to 20. 
  • As a part of the supervisory responsibilities, if there is not an employee to attend the process, the direct boss will have to attend the process or assign the activities to another employee (with equal qualifications).

Job Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for driving all test development from concept through production for automotive electronics developed in North America.  The primary focus of the position is leading and managing the Advanced Manufacturing Test Engineering group.  This includes driving recruiting; actively managing and developing personnel, managing a departmental budget, continuously improving processes and performance, meeting important company goals, reporting key information to upper management, timely completion of projects, and generally providing solid leadership. 
  • Drives project management and resource allocation interactions. Manage organization of Test Engineers with approximately 3 to 10 direct reports and total organization of 15 to 20 including remote site support teams.
  • Manage budgets for entire organization approximately $3M total including compensation, benefits, and expense
  • Assist in managing capital projects totaling over $15M per year.
  • Develop and maintain a highly capable technical team with excellent customer service skills by creating an environment that fosters innovations, teamwork and empowers the team to identify and implement new solutions with cost, footprint reductions and improved quality.
  • Drive for standardization globally with all manufacturing regions.
  • Support RFQ activities and support the IPM, HW, SW teams and plant engineering groups to ensure successful new product launch.
  • Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test - ensure future product are designed to minimize the manufacturing cost and align with test capability and are taking into account lessons learned.  It is critical to drive software team on flashing strategy to ensure product can be programmed in a high volume manufacturing site.
  • Define a test and technology roadmap for future audio and infotainment products including new technology and new processes.
  • Develop and maintain a highly capable technical team with excellent customer service skills that provide input to the pilot builds and throughout the product development lifecycle as well as support and train the manufacturing test teams.
  • Drive engaged support for pilot factory builds to ensure product quality and delivery goals are met.  commitments are met
  • Drive for standardization globally with all manufacturing regions on test equipment and development standards to ensure global standards
  • Work with IPM, HW, and SW engineering groups to ensure successful new product launch that hits project timing, budget (labor minutes, scrap, capital spend), and expected quality performance.
  • Supports global VAVE projects for AME
  • Participate and potential leads selected global projects with intercultural aspects and test standardization projects to ensure common practices used across all regions
  • Plan and manage project budget, time schedule, and resources
  • Ensure transparent reporting to Senior Management
  • Reports to Sr. Director – AME NA

  • Bachelor and/or Master degree, Engineer (Electrical preferred)
  • 10+ years of automotive electronics manufacturing experience in high volume environment and 3+ years related experience in project/line management
  • Demonstrate proficiency of test system design (SW&HW) with a proven global experience architecting and developing robust test automation, 8+ years of applicable experience.
  • Strong technical leadership – ability to pull team together to resolve problems and overcome obstacles
  • Knowledge in mixed signal embedded HW design, specifically: analog and digital interfaces like SPDIF, LVDS, medium-high audio power amplifier design/test, switching and linear power supplies, RF (BT, WiFi, GPS, Tuner, etc), vehicle communication networks (like CAN, CANFD, someIP, AVC-LAN, MOST, Ethernet AVB, LIN, etc), inter-IC interfaces (like SPI, MLB, I2C, I2S, etc.).
  • Knowledge of IC level programming, and embedded system level programming.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and automation scripting development tools (debugger’s, emulators, compilers, etc.), such as Python, C/C++, Linux is preferred.
  • Experience with source code version control (Perforce, SVN, etc.).
  • Expert in at least one of the following fields: Embedded SW design (Android, C++). Infotainment HW design, DFT, and test automation. Test development platform (NI LabView/TestStand, .Net, C##), Certified NI LabView/TestStand Architect preferred.
  • Fundamental knowledge in terms of methodologies in project management specifically in planning and controlling
  • Thorough understanding of complex automotive electronics and audio system and data exchange associated with provisioning and maintaining traceability.
  • Extensive experience in managing technical teams and building bench strength.
  • Proven verbal/written communication and demonstrated human relationship skills.
  • Ability to develop technology roadmap and drive team to maintain the direction.
  • Ability to influence other organizations to support team and be compliant to manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong, hands-on experience in designing and implementing test best practices in fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without detailed direction while managing sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from senior management, clients, customers and employees.
