Description & Requirements

About the Role

As a Sr. Principal Hardware Electrical Engineer at Harman International, you will be responsible for signal integrity analysis and simulations for intelligent cockpit units in the automotive industry. The person in this role is expected to work independently and lead projects, as well as work within teams interfacing with other engineers, technicians and/or outside vendors to complete all necessary SI-PI tasks.

Your Team

You will be part of the EE design team, and responsible for building SI-PI simulation process for boards/FPCs/SIPs, validating results in the lab for correlation to improve SI-PI design quality Your primary focus will be on ensuring the integrity and reliability of signal transmissions within our hardware systems.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct signal integrity analysis and simulations for vehicle Intelligent cockpit units.
  • Support board-level design engineers by providing signal and power integrity guidance and recommendations.
  • Develop SI-PI methodologies using ANSYS tools. Design stack-ups SI rules. Develop detailed engineering test plans.
  • Validate high speed interface and PDN impedance in lab to correlate simulation results and improve design flow.
  • Troubleshoot signal and power integrity issues of high-speed interfaces such as PCIe Gen4/5, DDR4/5, SATA/SAS, MIPI and Ethernet 10 Gbps. Lead or co-lead signal integrity work for ASIC, PHY and FPGA devices.
  • Utilize strong fundamentals in 3D/2D EM simulation tools and transmission line theory.
  • Close collaboration with EE designers, system validation engineers, and vendors to help establish/validate system requirements and hardware specifications.
  • Demonstrate and advice in terms of SI and/or EMC performance to internal (sales and marketing) and external customers, the optimal use of the by our engineers developed products in their product applications.
  • Work with hardware architecture team / board designers and connector vendors to recommend high speed, control and power connectors for high performance circuit blocks.

What You Need

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 6+ experience in Simulation for Power integrity (PI) and Signal integrity field (SI) in areas of Frequency domain and Time domain Modeling, Simulation, Optimization and Correlation with tool such as HSpice, Cadence Allegro SI, HFSS.
  • Deep knowledge on transmission line theory, electromagnetic field theory and time & frequency domain analysis.
  • Strong understanding of signal and power integrity issues of high-speed serial interfaces.

What is Nice to Have

  • Familiar with automotive or consumer hardware design, review and bring-up process, CAD tools, constraint manager etc.
  • Excellent simulation and lab measurement capability, and experience in designing and manufacturing space constrained technology products.
  • Experience in performing TDR measurements.
  • Proficiency in 3D/2D EM simulation tools and transmission line theory

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 20%, for domestic and international travel.
  • Be willing to work in an office 60% of the time with flexibility to continue your work from home.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
  • Passion for electrical analysis and analytical mindset.
