Description & Requirements

About the role:

You are a passionate Decision and Control professional, who is enthusiastic about automotive electronics and wants to define future ADAS/AD systems and in-cabin user experience.

As Principal Decision and Control Engineer within the ADAS LAB, you are an expert on ADAS/AD decision and control, and you have a proficient high-level understanding of all relevant neighboring domains. In our ADAS Lab, you will continuously analyze & benchmark ADAS/AD technology trends in the decision and control domain as well as act as an internal consultant in partnership due diligence activities and to enable the Design, Architecture & Validation Concepts, and Feature Integration teams. With your peers within the Technology, Product, and Partnership team, you will continuously analyze ADAS/AD market and technology trends, benchmark customer and competitor products, and pursuit partnership opportunities.

What You Will Do

  • Continuously analyze & benchmark ADAS/AD technology trends in the decision and control domain as well as act as an internal consultant within the ADAS Lab, especially with respect to partnership due diligence activities.
  • Ensure ADAS Lab team is aware of state-of-the-art decision and control technology trends and that these trends are sufficiently considered in its work products.
  • Provide technical guidance, especially with respect to control SW integration on safety capable HW (e.g., SoC safety island or IoC with RTOS), actuator design decisions (e.g., deployment, configuration), and control stack validation.
  • Collaborate with SMEs, customers, partners, suppliers, and universities to design ADAS/AD systems for Infotainment Domain Controller with ADAS capabilities up to central compute units.
  • Support knowledge management and provide trainings within Divisional Technology.

What You Need

  • PhD degree in Control Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable experience.
  • 7+ years hands-on experience in Decision and Control technology for ADAS/AD systems (Highway Assist, Traffic Jam Pilot/Highway Pilot, Automated Parking Assist, etc.) in OEM programs.
  • Core expertise in ADAS/AD technology stack from situation awareness (e.g., Bayesian network) via behavior, motion & trajectory planning (e.g., hybrid A*, reinforcement, LQR, polynomial and heuristic algorithm), to vehicle control (e.g., PID, MPC) including actuator capabilities (e.g., responsiveness, redundancy).
  • Good understanding of Functional Safety (ISO26262) and Safety of the intended Functionality (ISO21448), especially with respect to ADAS/AD decision and control corner cases.
  • Good understanding of control SW integration on ADAS/AD computing platforms and safety capable deployment options (safety island, IoC with AUTOSAR)
  • Technical leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire people.
  • Advanced understanding of ADAS/AD sensors for ego and environmental sensing, applicable industry standards (e.g., ASPICE) and best practices as well as technology and trends (e.g., end to end reinforcement planning) inside the decision and control domain.
