The Distinguished Engineer, System Architect role is a key leadership role inside HARMAN’s Intelligent Cockpit Strategic Business Unit and acts as a mediator between engineers, stakeholders, and users/customers. In this role, you take ownership of Standards Groups and Bodies Alignment of ADAS/AD & Central Compute centric products along with a focus on government regulations within NA as primary focus and EU as secondary focus market for Intelligent Cockpit ADAS/AD & Central Compute related products. Presently products such as interior sensing, driver monitoring, and occupant monitoring along with Central Computer system solutions are being developed. The major focus area for Central Computer will be concerning Mixed Criticality Orchestration including SW payload and infrastructure provisioning, Mixed-Criticality Platform & Device Virtualization, and Mixed-Criticality Data Bus which are envisioned to be based on in-house Middleware / OS (Operating System) / Hypervisor, SW platform technology. This role owns and defines the ADAS/AD part of the Harman Multi Domain Controller SW architecture for Following Domain Consolidation, ADAS/AD, Digital Cockpit, and Body Domain as a future candidate for domain consolidation on software platform middleware tailored towards Harman chosen Hypervisor and OS combo derived from Harman’s strategy given by senior leadership team.

This is an ideal opportunity to solve a wide range of technical challenges including driving hardware-agnostic SW development targeted towards the realization of the embedded part of a SW Defined Vehicle. This role will act as a ‘go-to person’ for software architectural topics within platforms, RFIs, RFQs, and projects concerning standards bodies and regulations. This role is considered the bridge between the development teams, program management, customers, and other Harman SBUs. You will make and own decisions and the consequences of the SW design framework on an organizational level. The role reports to the ADAS/AD Domain Architecture Leader. A hybrid work environment with working from home and in the office is an integral part of this role

What You Will Do

  • Define, design, and align the ADAS/AD software architecture for Multi Domain Controller / infotainment-oriented systems with ADAS capabilities and digital cockpits of the next generation for given product lines and beyond.

  • Take shared ownership of cross-functional, conceptual requirements to the Multi Domain Controller OS/Middleware, the embedded operating system of the Harman Multi Domain Controller

  • Enable SW Framework to implement ADAS In cabin perception, ADAS Parking & Driving, and AR (Augmented Reality) + AR-HUD Related Perception into a Digital Cockpit Ecosystem including the use of Neural Processing Units / Hardware Accelerators

  • Enable SW Framework for Multi Domain Controller SW-Technical Safety Case derived from high-level Functional Safety Case

  • Enable SW Framework for Cybersecurity compliance of Multi Domain Controller and product deployments which involves products dealing with Biometric Data such as in-cabin Sensing

  • Analyze, define, and refine requirements, for the sustainable implementation and documentation of the Harman Multi Domain controller and associated Products involved/hosted on the Multi Domain Controller (DevOps)

  • Define new, complex embedded and online use cases of multi-domain controller (Capability Demonstration towards SOP (Start of Production) projects) proactively as well as adapt and optimize the existing architecture, e.g., by design and/ or code reviews.

  • Develop the current/ target architecture, the vision, and the migration steps to get there for the products, services, and the entire platform ecosystem of the Multi Domain Controller

  • Anticipate E/E software architecture trends in the automotive market to derive and extend the software architecture roadmap.

  • Generate a roadmap regarding legal aspects and upcoming standardization aspects of ADAS/AD including NCAP, Homologation, etc.

  • Proactive engagement with relevant industry standards bodies and working groups.

  • Participate in innovation and technology scouting activities with business development, innovation teams & patent committees across Harman and represent SBU (Strategic Business Unit) Intelligent Cockpit in RFI/RFQ activities for general topics of SW architecture/roadmap about the ADAS/AD domain.
