About the Role

HARMAN’s Luxury Audio Group consists of a portfolio of iconic audio brands including Mark Levinson, Arcam, JBL Synthesis, Lexicon, and Revel.

As Director of Engineering within the Mark Levinson Engineering group, you will be joining our team of world-class engineers who share a passion for impeccable sound and dedication to raising the bar for high-end consumer audio.

As we continue to expand our product portfolio and market presence, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Director to lead our talented engineering team. The Engineering Director will play a crucial role in shaping the technological direction of our audio products and driving innovation in audio engineering. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of audio electronics, strong technical acumen, and proven experience in managing cross-functional engineering teams. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with product management, project management, external partners, suppliers, contractors, and other key stakeholders to deliver high-quality, market-leading audio products.

Your Team

You will report to the Sr. Director, Global Engineering, Luxury Audio. This position will have responsibility for several direct reports including Mechanical, Hardware and Software engineers.

What You Will Do

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with Harman, Luxury Audio’s strategic goals.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products to guide technology roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with product management to define technical requirements and specifications for new products.

  • Lead the end-to-end product development process, from concept to production, ensuring products meet or exceed quality and performance expectations.

  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in audio technology to enhance product features and capability.

  • Recruit, mentor and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and accountability.

  • Monitor project timelines and deliverables to meet deadlines and financial targets.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in electrical engineering, audio engineering or related fields.

  • Proven experience ( > 10 years) in a leadership role in the Audio industry or a Consumer Electronics business.

  • Strong product development skills, including managing OEM/ODM development programs, engineering capacity management, and driving innovation.

  • Deep knowledge of industry standards and trends in high-end consumer audio.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Passion for music and audio

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix environment.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 10%, domestic and international travel.

  • Be willing to work in an office in Northridge, CA (onsite).

  • At Harman, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is $180k – 220k, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
