About the Role

The Technical Program Manager is responsible for organizing and executing development for products such as audio and noise management systems. This position will work in a cross-functional role planning, communicating, team building and executing a development plan to Harman and customer requirements. This position will work directly with HARMAN’s Customer Program Management Group in Japan and interface with the customer. The successful candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (such as electrical, mechanical etc.) and 5+ years of industry experience in program/project management, product engineering, and customer interface.

What You Will Do

  • Typically manage several audio systems (system, speaker, and/or amplifier) program teams, requiring both applications and international development engineering.
  • Serve as lead program interface with customer.
  • Define tasks and goals (system cost, timeliness, customer issues, and quality) to be met by cross-functional team (design engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, marketing, and sales) in developing assigned systems.
  • Establish and manage program schedule and corresponding budget.
  • Ensure team compliance to appropriate product development process for protecting product quality.
  • Support RFQ process and business case creation through engineering effort / variable cost estimation
  • Ensure prompt decision-making is executed by promoting consensus decisions, intervening when consensus decision-making fails, and making unilateral decisions in the case of a deadlock.
  • Understand the technical detail of the products used in all systems
  • Approve requirements and technical solutions for meeting requirements for all development products.
  • Set team goals for timeliness, customer issues, and quality. Lead team to meet goals.
  • Negotiate resource allocations from functional managers. When a resource conflict occurs, negotiate a solution with functional managers and other program managers.
  • Identify program issues as early as possible and drive resolution at the team level. If resolutions require management intervention, escalate to appropriate management personnel with proposed alternatives.
  • Review selected suppliers and quotes and participate in supplier reviews/selection as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and oversee ordering of prototype and production tooling.
  • Audit team’s performance against customer deliverables and proactively implement improvements as needed.
  • Provide regular reports in requested format.
  • Recommend improvements to development process.
  • Provide backup support for team members for assigned customer(s) as needed.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years related experience in program management, sales, quality, design, engineering management, process engineering, or manufacturing engineering
  • Project Planning, problem solving, multi-tasking, project management skills
  • Hardworking, dedicated individual who takes ownership of issues and leads the team toward successful resolution
  • Equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered
  • Able to travel to customer location and Harman plants

What is Nice to Have

  • PMP certification preferred but not required
  • Technical background in embedded SW, Automotive Electronics and Audio systems preferred.
