About the Role

The HW SME for amplifiers plays a pivot role in the Car Audio Strategic Business Unit. The business unit markets, designs, engineers and manufactures advanced audio amplifiers, speakers, and microphones for most of the OEMs.

You will interact with customers around the globe, engineering centers in China, Mexico, and India, Program Managers, and other stakeholders to develop Car Audio products.


Your Team

This position will not have any direct reports. However, providing technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced engineers, interns, and co-ops is required.


What You Will Do

  • Work Product Reviews:

    • You will be involved in the design review of HW work products following the project lifecycle. Some examples are Customer Requirements Analysis, Design Verification plan, HW Block Diagram, Schematics, DFMEA & DRBFM, Worst Case Circuit Analysis, PCB Layout, Design Verification, etc.

    • The outcome of the work product review should be coherent with highest level of expertise in the field of knowledge. The feedback should be according to be best international standards in product design, best engineering practices and aiming to improve the products considering the best balance between performance, quality and cost.

  • RFQ Technical HW Lead:

    • You will hold a centric position during the request for quotations by technically leading the HW portion of the concept definition in RFQs and RFIs. This includes specifications review, HW architecture definition, effort estimations, and stakeholder’s alignment.

    • The technical leadership of RFQ and RFI is done independently, with authority, founded in the best engineering practices to develop an imaginative and outstanding technical solution.

  • Lead of Technical Issue Investigations:

    • You will mediate in deep technical HW issues between the customers, suppliers and engineering centers. It requires the coordination, definition, troubleshooting and communication of critical issues to the stakeholders.

    • When necessary, you will play a leading role in deep technical HW issue investigations, planning the support, describing the issues, leading the root cause analysis, organizing stakeholders meetings, defining actions, etc.

  • Advanced Technology Development:

    • You will participate in advance development projects (ADP) to realize positive change for customer products and HW platforms.

    • In particular, in some ADPs you will play a leading role, following the development plan, researching innovative concepts and ideas.

    • You will also engage with the platform and product planning teams to support the concept definition of new platforms and building blocks

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years’ experience; Master’s Degree in above mentioned fields and 8 years of experience in research and development; or PhD degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering or related field and 4 years of experience in corporate or academic research.

  • 10 or more years of experience in HW development for automotive embedded systems.

  • Expert with HW design tools, such as Cadence/OrCAD, Pspice, Mentor Graphics, MathCAD, etc. and testing tools like, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, audio analyzer, etc.

  • Expert in HW embedded systems around SoC, MCU, and DSP, power electronics, and electronic communication busses such as A2B, CAN, LIN, AVB, I2C, SPI, etc.

  • Expert in audio products in automotive applications.

  1. Engineer

    An entry level role, the degreed Engineer knows and applies basic concepts and techniques of the profession under direct supervision and guidance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Senior Engineer

    A Senior Engineer provides a wider variety of technical support tasks using a combination of advanced engineering principles and techniques. They operate with little guidance/supervision as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their defined area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years’ experience.

  3. Principal Engineer

    Principal Engineers are recognized as an emerging expert. They lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or process while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. They demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 12 years’ experience.

  4. Senior Principal Engineer

    Recognized as a technical expert, Senior Principal Engineers consistently demonstrate high levels of technical expertise, ingenuity and creativity. They develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, and have broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 16 years’ experience.

  5. Distinguished Engineer

    A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. They advance engineering principles, theories and concepts, and are recognized as a Company-wide authority in one or more technical areas. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 20 years’ experience.

  6. Fellow

    A Fellow is an industry recognized expert with a significant body of peer reviewed research and journal publications and frequently speaks at conferences. Acts as a HARMAN ambassador. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 25 years’ experience.

  7. Senior Fellow

    A Senior Fellow is the most accomplished of an elite group of engineers, widely recognized as a World renowned expert in their field of expertise. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 30 years’ experience.
