Position Summary:

The Best Cost Analytics Operations Lead will report into the HARMAN Best Cost Analytics organization and will be responsible for driving HARMAN’s cost modeling operations. The Best Cost Analytics team drives a strong Design-to-Cost culture at HARMAN through the development and delivery of “should cost” models from the component level to the system level including manufacturing and delivery costs. Working in partnership with Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Sourcing and Procurement teams, the Best Cost Analytics team delivers the cost models and data necessary to drive HARMAN to a Design-to-Cost leadership position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Align HARMAN’s cost modeling practices and standards to comply with finance and accounting standards
  • Develop the necessary methods and processes required to keep modeling standards and associated data up to date. Examples include:
    • Material costs
    • Labor rates
    • Foreign exchange rates
  • Contribute to the generation of cost model development guidelines and requirements
  • Perform audits of HARMAN’s cost models to verify that developed models comply with documented requirements
  • Contribute to the key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that will be used to measure the performance of the Best Cost Analytics team
  • Drive monthly operations reviews within the Best Cost Analytics team enabling regular review of team performance
  • Serve as the bridge between the Best Cost Analytics team and HARMAN’s customer business unit controllers
  • Responsible for ensuring cost modeling aligns with Harman financial practices and accounting standards
  • Responsible for standardizing and auditing cost modeling methods and practices
  • Work with Engineering & Product Sourcing teams during new business quoting to establish reference cost targets
  • Support Procurement teams during negotiating events with target costing
  • Establish processes to train HARMAN Engineering & Product Sourcing teams on Design-to-Cost best practices

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or finance
  • Minimum of 10 yrs of work experience in the following areas:
    • Cost engineering
    • Product cost control
    • Product development
    • Customer program management
    • Production facility management
  • Strong product costing background with demonstrated technical acumen in complex electronic systems
  • Highly analytical approach to problem-solving with demonstrated knowledge of product cost drivers and options to influence product costs
  • Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to effectively present complex topics to senior and executive leadership
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, highly measured, results-focused environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automotive products is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in product cost controls using Design-to-Cost principles including should cost modeling
  • Strong process orientation with an ability to develop and document new processes
  • Demonstrated ability to breakdown mechanical components, assemblies and systems into the constituent costs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional environment
  • Must be able to comfortably interface into a variety of functions including Engineering, Product Sourcing, Procurement, and Customer Business Units
  • Proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively work with all levels of a global matrixed organization
  • Accepts overall accountability, is comfortable in a dynamic environment and is comfortable in driving change

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel 10 -20% of the time
  • Willingness to work in Harman’s Novi, MI office
