About the Role

HARMAN’s Luxury Audio group consists of a portfolio of the most respected brands in the audio industry – JBL Synthesis, Mark Levinson, Arcam, Lexicon, and Revel. Our engineering facility in Northridge, CA houses some of the brightest minds in High-End audio. The Senior Global Product Line Manager will bring business sensibility and market insights to this team to drive the creation of the most innovative audio products on the planet. Collaborating with our Acoustic Center of Excellence in Northridge, CA and our Home & Multi-Media development center in Shenzhen, China, the Sr. GPLM will marshal all of HARMAN’s technical might to drive products through the New Product Introduction process.


Your Team

The Sr. GPLM will report directly to the Luxury Audio Sr. Director, Product Strategy and Planning.

What You Will Do

  • Work with the Luxury Audio leadership team to develop a clear & differentiated product strategy for the Luxury Audio group of brands. Support this strategy with compelling category roadmaps and market/competitive benchmarking and analysis.
  • Drive leadership in category by defining meaningful product differentiation and being very strict when deciding what to leave out of a product spec. Present your category and Harman Value Proposition in a manner that is consumer friendly, market realistic, creative and ultimately compelling.
  • Work close with Marketing to develop the Marketing Plan to successfully launch products from your category.
  • Have an international perspective that looks for creative ways to explore new high-end growth opportunities in all global sales regions. Build relationships with the sales and marketing teams, collect input from the regions, and inform the product definitions with the voice of the customer.
  • Be at the forefront of technological trends and implications. This includes key platform architecture trade-offs and maximizing the Harman advantage.
  • Proven strong P&L skills with the ability to develop an ROI business case with total confidence. Ability to use proper judgement when determining the balance of projected vs. actual financial return.
  • Support the Luxury Audio program management and engineering teams in Northridge, CA, Shenzhen, China, Cambridge, UK, and Shelton, CT making sure that the required product concept gets turned into actual detailed product requirement document. Work as a team player in all Product Development activities outside your specific responsibility.
  • Master the entire category lifecycle process, showcasing strong project management skills to ensure initial product creation milestones happen on time. Take ownership to enable successful product launches within appropriate regional Introduction windows.

What You Need

  • 10+ years experience, preferably in the Consumer Electronics business
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • Strong project management skills, including mastering product life cycle: product management and product planning experience
  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix environment

What is Nice to Have

  • MBA preferred
  • Background in consumer and or professional audio products, specifically loudspeakers, is highly desirable
  • Results-Driven: Having a proactive, goal-oriented approach to decision making.
  • Team Player: Proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively work with all levels of a global matrixed organization
  • Change Orientation: Act as a Change Management expert and enabler on various projects and programs across the business
  • Customer Focus: Strong technical competence to influence and maximize Product Architecture decisions internally and externally.
  • Self-Awareness: Takes ownership for personal career and skill development
