About the Role

HARMAN’s Embedded Audio Business Unit (HEA) consists of a portfolio of the most innovative audio and rendering solutions available, serving numerous world-class brands in the consumer goods and enterprise spaces globally. In this role, you will be responsible for stewarding all HEA Platform and Finished Goods projects cradle to grave, including Product research, analysis, strategy, planning development and deployment.  With the HEA Product Director, you will set Platform and Finished Goods strategy and priorities, in close collaboration with HEA Engineering in both Shenzhen China and Northridge, California. Success will come from focusing Platform and Finished Goods development where maximum customer interest, best market opportunities and HEA’s Engineering/development capabilities all intersect. In close collaboration with HEA Product, Engineering and Sales teams, you will define direction of Platform and Finished Goods for Harman Embedded Audio globally. Awareness of newest technologies and competitor activity is required, as well as collaboration with other Harman Divisions and Business Units to best leverage Harman’s overall resources and technologies.  Driving Platforms & Finished Goods development efficiency and sustainability is priority, but with a keen understanding of HEA’s strengths and weaknesses. 

Your Team

You will report to the Product Director for HEA.

What You Will Do

  • Develop, innovate and maintain Platform Roadmap – seeking to maximize HEA resources against market opportunities

  • Identify new market segments and opportunities where HEA platforms & solutions may be leveraged

  • Regularly research & analyze best-bet market segments where HEA platforms and solutions will be best leveraged

  • Closely collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Program and Marketing (research) to identify most desirable and most executable Platforms

  • Analyze new market segments & create Platform opportunity matrix for Sales planning and pitches 

  • Work closely w Sales & customers to productize requests & concepts (finish goods)

  • Qualify Customer projects thoroughly in advance to ensure HEA capabilities & customer expectations (finish goods)

  • Create strategy and rhythm to expand HEA “custom work” into repeatable platforms and “Platform” model that can be quickly deployed with new opportunities

  • Work w Marketing on PR & Sales methods for Platforms

  • Work closely with sales and customers to understand required solutions that intersect HEA capabilities

  • Work closely with Harman Sourcing team to select best suppliers and most favorable pricing for Platform and Finish Good projects

  • Deeply understand newest technologies within and outside Harman, and harness / scale the appropriate ones for use in HEA products 

  • Monitor, track competitor activity and provide feedback to leadership and other company functions to remain in front of market changes and trends

  • Participate in key customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities for Platform and Finished projects

What You Need

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field

  • Minimum 5 years experience in marketing and/or consumer product development

  • Experience in Electronics Industry required

  • Understanding of electronics product development

  • Very strong oral and written communications skills

  • Good interpersonal skills with partners and co-workers

  • Ability to work collaboratively to create results driven, team-oriented culture

What is Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in Business, Marketing or Engineering is preferred

  • Experience working with diverse international teams at numerous sites

  • Experience in consumer products is preferred

  • Sales or business development background also a plus

  • Candidates with 10+ years of experience preferred
