About the Role

This role sits at the “tip of the spear” of innovation in the Automotive Division at HARMAN. As a Senior System Architect, Audio Technology in an entirely new product space, you will work in our Car Audio team, heavily interacting with our Digital Cockpit team.

You are responsible for driving and defining the technical concept and owning the technical integrity of the Product. Responsibilities include vehicle level concepts, product architecture, technical alignment and presentation of the concept and architecture.

Your Team

While this is an individual contributor role, you will be expected to lead with influence and work with cross-functional team members and experts, as well as draw from all relevant functions within the business in a matrix organization. This team will be empowered and aligned around company objectives. Excellent communication and leadership skills will be key to success.

What You Will Do

  • Define and create vehicle level concepts enabling new product spaces and innovations
  • Define and create product architectures supporting the vehicle level concepts
  • Lead technical alignment and workshops cross Harman such as Digital Cockpit and Car Audio related to the new product space
  • Presentation of technical concepts during the funding, concept and RFI/RFQ phase both internally and towards customers
  • Drive key component evaluation and selection from technical perspective
  • Development of high-level and detailed concepts with related specifications
  • Support definition of product requirement specification
  • Translate use cases, user stories, and product requirements into engineering requirements by working closely with Harman’s Automotive Strategy group, Innovation & Technology team, Research & UX Design team, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and Marketing teams
  • Mentor and guide domain architects

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 10+ years of experience in audio, IVI, connectivity, or related continuous data streaming systems.
  • Experience with wireless connectivity and latency-critical systems
  • Strong background in SoCs, IOC, networks, DSP, software design
  • Experience with system architecture styles and design principles
  • Knowledge with operating systems such as QNX, Linux, and Android
  • Must have a "whatever-it-takes" attitude using diplomatic leadership skills within a collaborative teamwork environment to accomplish the necessary results

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience from consumer audio/wireless products and systems
  • Strong background in HW device connectivity, streaming architecture and protocols, and/or wireless wearables
  • Knowledge of the requirements inside the automotive area. Understand the dynamics of the automotive Tier-1 market and have a vision for market and customer trends
  • Experience in AI/ML processing architecture and functional blocks.

Career Path

  1. Engineer

    An entry level role, the degreed Engineer knows and applies basic concepts and techniques of the profession under direct supervision and guidance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Senior Engineer

    A Senior Engineer provides a wider variety of technical support tasks using a combination of advanced engineering principles and techniques. They operate with little guidance/supervision as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their defined area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years’ experience.

  3. Principal Engineer

    Principal Engineers are recognized as an emerging expert. They lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or process while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. They demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 12 years’ experience.

  4. Senior Principal Engineer

    Recognized as a technical expert, Senior Principal Engineers consistently demonstrate high levels of technical expertise, ingenuity and creativity. They develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, and have broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 16 years’ experience.

  5. Distinguished Engineer

    A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. They advance engineering principles, theories and concepts, and are recognized as a Company-wide authority in one or more technical areas. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 20 years’ experience.

  6. Fellow

    A Fellow is an industry recognized expert with a significant body of peer reviewed research and journal publications and frequently speaks at conferences. Acts as a HARMAN ambassador. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 25 years’ experience.

  7. Senior Fellow

    A Senior Fellow is the most accomplished of an elite group of engineers, widely recognized as a World renowned expert in their field of expertise. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 30 years’ experience.
