About the Role

This role is responsible for supporting product design and development to help ensure EMC validation compliance. This role is responsible for providing project teams with solutions to prevent and mitigate EMC Design non-compliance.

Your Team

This role reports to the Manager of Validation: EMC Design, Certification and Regulatory Compliance.

What You Will Do

  • Support EMC Design activity for assigned projects
  • Support supplier chain analysis pertaining to EMC design
  • Support EMC simulation, power integrity and signal integrity activities
  • EMC Non-Compliance Root Cause Analysis and Mitigation support
  • EMC Pre-Compliance Lab Development and Usage

This role directly impacts the cost of poor quality through impact on design robustness. This role must influence design decisions, assist with direction of design strategy, and provide expertise to resolve design issues impacting EMC performance of Harman products.

This role is primarily regional, with some required support of project teams in other global locations, such as China, Germany, and Mexico.

This role requires high level EMC design technical expertise, professional interpersonal communication skills, excellent negotiation and risk management skills, and problem solving skills requiring technical laboratory usage, RCA tools usage, and risk management tools.

This role requires critical competencies in all of the following areas: Leadership, Change Orientation, Collaboration, Judgement, and Results Driven.

What You Need

  • 5 Years of experience as EMC Engineer
  • BSEE
  • Familiarity with EMC test methodologies and specifications
  • Ability to competently execute the following
    • Layout review tools
    • Electrical Schematic analysis
    • EMC design analysis tools
    • EMC design simulation tools
    • Professional office tools
    • Must be able to lift moderate equipment (e.g. 50lbs)
    • Must be able to configure and utilize electrical measurement equipment
      • (e.g. Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Oscilloscope)

What is Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with OEM specific and general automotive industry test methods and standards
  • Second language
  • iNARTE certification
  • PCB rework/modification capability
  • Expert level EMC simulation, SI, PI analysis capability

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 25%, domestic OR international travel
  • Be willing to work in an office and laboratory

  1. Engineer

    An entry level role, the degreed Engineer knows and applies basic concepts and techniques of the profession under direct supervision and guidance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Senior Engineer

    A Senior Engineer provides a wider variety of technical support tasks using a combination of advanced engineering principles and techniques. They operate with little guidance/supervision as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their defined area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years’ experience.

  3. Principal Engineer

    Principal Engineers are recognized as an emerging expert. They lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or process while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. They demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 12 years’ experience.

  4. Senior Principal Engineer

    Recognized as a technical expert, Senior Principal Engineers consistently demonstrate high levels of technical expertise, ingenuity and creativity. They develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, and have broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 16 years’ experience.

  5. Distinguished Engineer

    A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. They advance engineering principles, theories and concepts, and are recognized as a Company-wide authority in one or more technical areas. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 20 years’ experience.

  6. Fellow

    A Fellow is an industry recognized expert with a significant body of peer reviewed research and journal publications and frequently speaks at conferences. Acts as a HARMAN ambassador. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 25 years’ experience.

  7. Senior Fellow

    A Senior Fellow is the most accomplished of an elite group of engineers, widely recognized as a World renowned expert in their field of expertise. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 30 years’ experience.
