Job Description:

The Harman Automotive Services team is looking for an Android Architect that will lead the design and implementation of the Harman Ignite automotive cloud platform on the next generation Android Automotive infotainment platform. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished software engineer with significant background and technical understanding of the Android Ecosystem, Android Framework, Android Automotive/Android Auto, and Android application development. This role will work collaboratively with the cloud services development team, the client software development team, and the corporate infotainment team to establish and maintain a consistent end-to-end architecture for the platform.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze software requirements and map them to existing Android architecture or extend the architecture in order to support the new requirements.
  • Document and communicate architectural decisions and designs
  • Provide direction, guidance, and expert advice to the software development and delivery teams
    Develop prototypes, proof of concepts, and feasibility studies.
  • Interact with 3rd party content providers to integrate additional services into the platform
  • Offer support and troubleshooting assistance to the delivery teams for system level issues
  • Cooperate with project and product management to scope, estimate, and plan new efforts
  • Perform market analysis and evaluate free/open source alternatives for build/buy decisions
  • Stay up-to-date on Android releases and trends in Android development and automotive infotainment architecture

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 10+ years software development and/or architecture experience
  • 5+ years of development experience in Android framework and applications
  • Proven track record of developing complex software systems using Java
  • Strong knowledge of Android SDK and different versions of Android
  • Deep understanding of Android Automotive/Android Auto
  • Proficiency in real-time multi-threaded software design and development on Linux/Android
  • Familiarity with client/server applications and usage of RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to backend services
  • Experience with modeling tools and languages such as UML
  • Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business
