ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE ENGINEER

About the Role

As an Environmental Compliance Engineer, you will be responsible for managing environmental and material compliance projects ensuring Harman Professional products (not incuding consumer products), modules, accessories, parts made in-house and parts purchased from suppliers meet applicable laws, regulations and standards including but not limited to Proposition 65, REACH, WEEE, ROHS, Battery, Conflict Minerals. This role is a key contributor to the Harman Professional product compliance assurance will be working with Harman Professional new and existing products.


What You Will Do

  • Evaluate documents and test reports to ensure products are in compliance with material and environmental requirements as well as register products in SCIP.
  • Create and revise product compliance procedures related to environmental and material compliance as well as contribute with the continual improvement of the Environmental Compliance processes.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding product/part compliance, ensure that issues are understood and resolved, discuss findings and approve changes on products.
  • Collaborate closely with various Harman teams: supply chain, purchasing team and suppliers to ensure accurate material specifications and compliance artifacts are understood and acquired.
  • Ensure project timelines are met and certifications are completed in a timely manner
  • Provide training to multiple teams and support the product compliance with spreading the product compliance culture.
  • Track changes on environmental requirements as well as development of new requirements that affect Harman Professional products.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree ideally in Chemical Engineering, Material or Environmental Engineering (Maybe Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ideally about 5 - 7 years’ experience with environmental compliance, including REACH, RoHS, SCIP
  • Ability to review and build processes and procedures independently
  • Ability to work in a structured way, strong organization and documentation skills
  • Coaching /training and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English (both verbal and written)
  • Ability and drive to manage and prioritize multiple projects in parallel
  • Team player, flexible personality

What Is Nice To Have:

  • Experience with product compliance solutions, such as Assent Compliance and BOM Check.
  • Experience with IT, audio and video products.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 5% travel depending on need
  • Some office days/month in our Budapest office are preferred to collaborate with Haman teams

They operate with little guidance/supervision as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their defined area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years’ experience.

  3. Principal Engineer

    Principal Engineers are recognized as an emerging expert. They lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or process while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. They demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 12 years’ experience.

  4. Senior Principal Engineer

    Recognized as a technical expert, Senior Principal Engineers consistently demonstrate high levels of technical expertise, ingenuity and creativity. They develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, and have broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 16 years’ experience.

  5. Distinguished Engineer

    A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. They advance engineering principles, theories and concepts, and are recognized as a Company-wide authority in one or more technical areas. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 20 years’ experience.

  6. Fellow

    A Fellow is an industry recognized expert with a significant body of peer reviewed research and journal publications and frequently speaks at conferences. Acts as a HARMAN ambassador. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 25 years’ experience.

  7. Senior Fellow

    A Senior Fellow is the most accomplished of an elite group of engineers, widely recognized as a World renowned expert in their field of expertise. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 30 years’ experience.
