About the Role

The Director, Cost Programs role will be responsible for the overall success of HARMAN Automotive Division’s cost management with an initial focus on direct material cost management. The role will improve HARMAN’s Automotive overall profitability and attractiveness to its customer by:

  • Defining the Integration strategy of cross-functional teams
  • Overall effectiveness cross-functional teams
  • Ensuring result delivery / risk mitigation / quality across all teams
  • Conceptual development of the related related framework including systems, processes, methods and tools

The role will be responsible to develop the vision, strategy and overall execution plan of the cost programs, creating transparency between teams and leadership. The role will develop the overall program communication.

The role will serve as primary business partner for:

  • Cost Programs leadership
  • Cross-functional team leads

The role will ensure delivery of targeted EBIT improvement both on short/mid/long term and report into the Best Cost Analytics organization of the division.



Your Team

This position will have 2 global direct reports.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure profitability of the division with creating and executing the integration strategy of cross-functional teams in cost management programs by
    • Defining vision and execution strategy
    • Fostering purpose driven, highly effective teams with clear ownerships, accountability
    • Ensure efficiency of teams by mentoring team leads and challenging status quo
    • Ensure overall program transparency with data and analytics

  • Develop vision and strategy of the divisional cost management programs in line with leadership expectation, including,
    • target setting
    • development of execution plan
    • defining organization and reporting structure
    • defining roles and responsibilities
    • development of framework
    • alignment with Performance office

  • Ensure highly effective cross-functional teams to realize best-in-class cost management with:
    • Fostering team integrity
    • Cross-enablement of functions
    • Development methods and tools
    • Application of best-in-class
      • Procurement techniques and processes
      • Design-to-cost approach
  • Develop communication plan towards stakeholders:
    • Cost Management leadership team
    • Divisional leadership
    • Cross-functional teams

  • Ensure transparency by defining reporting structure of
    • cross-functional teams towards leadership
    • leadership towards automotive divisional leadership

What You Need

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field with experience in Procurement, Finance, Engineering or Program Management
  • Highly independent business / financial acumen with outstanding motivation to challenge status quo and improve HARMAN Automotive division’s profitability
  • Strategic thinking with outstanding networking/influencing capabilities in a diverse cross-functional environment
  • Technical competency in electronic products (Electrical, Mechanical, Semiconductor components)
  • Proven experience of best-in-class Procurement processes & familiarity with the automotive global supply base
  • Proven experience of Cost calculation methods and fact-based negotiations
  • Proven experience of Design to Cost best practices
  • Data-leveraged approach to driving progress & measuring results
  • Ability to boil down complex topics/scenarios into clear summaries and decision-making requirements
  • Program Management experience/skillset – ability to pressure test execution plans & execution status for gap identification & resolution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

What is Nice to Have

  • German, Chinese, and/or Hungarian Language skills are a plus
