About the Role:

Digital Cockpit - Chief Engineering Linux is looking for a technical architecture leader, to join a growing Architecture team busy with challenging cockpit architectures for the HARMAN Automotive business with a strong understanding of Harman brands.

You will be leading and developing a team of System and Software Architects located in Germany, setting up clear goals and expectations, managing project concepts, setting up and guiding your team members for overall success. You will develop System- and Software Architecture designs for the automotive digital cockpit environment of several customers and driving and enhancing the Harman standard products.

  • Harman product steward: Ensure the architectures are aligned with the Harman vision for the given product. You will advocate for new design standards and patterns in collaboration with product, marketing, and engineering teams.
  • In doing so, you take special care to ensure that the concepts are efficient, roadworthy, and future-proof
  • Design vanguard: Continuously learn and apply the latest design trends and best practices for customer centered designs
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the customer product and for the Harman product roadmap
  • Author detailed interaction design specifications and create suitable architecture model proposals during all the phases of product acquisition and development execution
  • Create effective and understandable user flows, process flows to effectively communicate intended interactions and design ideas
  • Deliver architecture designs, which base on reusable continuously improved Harman assets
  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders
  • Work self-motivated and resourcefully in a fast-paced environment and in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders and clients
  • Provide creative guidance to junior design professionals as well as experienced architects teams
  • Process ambassador: Continuous improve the Harman software architecture and design processes in accordance with international standards for the automotive industry

What You Need:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or any comparable qualification
  • At least 5 years of architectural experience in Automotive projects
  • Excellent knowledge of model-based software architecture principles and architectural patterns
  • Expert knowledge in the development of digital-cockpit, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), car audio, and telematics services
  • Proven knowledge in modern operating systems, such as Linux and Android. Autosar know-how would be appreciated
  • Expert knowledge in EE-/IT-security and Functional Safety engineering
  • Profound knowledge of automotive communication networks like Ethernet and CAN, as well as communication protocols as TCP/IP, SomeIP and AVB
  • Strong attention to detail with a relentless attitude towards quality
  • You are a problem solver who can understand conceptual problems with a sharp intuition for the most accessible mental models and flows
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. German is a plus
  • Be willing to travel up to 20%, domestic and international travel

    An entry level role, the degreed Engineer knows and applies basic concepts and techniques of the profession under direct supervision and guidance. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree

  2. Senior Engineer

    A Senior Engineer provides a wider variety of technical support tasks using a combination of advanced engineering principles and techniques. They operate with little guidance/supervision as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in their defined area of specialization. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + 5 years’ experience.

  3. Principal Engineer

    Principal Engineers are recognized as an emerging expert. They lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and testing of technologies, tools, or process while consistently demonstrating technical expertise and ingenuity. They demonstrate the ability to plan, define, and execute projects with no supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 12 years’ experience.

  4. Senior Principal Engineer

    Recognized as a technical expert, Senior Principal Engineers consistently demonstrate high levels of technical expertise, ingenuity and creativity. They develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts, and have broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of their specialty. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 16 years’ experience.

  5. Distinguished Engineer

    A Distinguished Engineer has a strong record of creativity and innovation. They advance engineering principles, theories and concepts, and are recognized as a Company-wide authority in one or more technical areas. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 20 years’ experience.

  6. Fellow

    A Fellow is an industry recognized expert with a significant body of peer reviewed research and journal publications and frequently speaks at conferences. Acts as a HARMAN ambassador. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 25 years’ experience.

  7. Senior Fellow

    A Senior Fellow is the most accomplished of an elite group of engineers, widely recognized as a World renowned expert in their field of expertise. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree + 30 years’ experience.
