Test Engineer, Lighting

We are looking for a Test Engineer to help test and qualify lighting products for both retail and professional markets globally.

You will be part of a talented team of engineers based in our Shenzhen Development Center (SDC) at Harman that demonstrate ownership of the entire process from sourcing ODM/OEM suppliers to delivering products according to specification. This includes management of suppliers focusing on agreed requirements, continued risk assessment and follow-up on project progress. All this in close cooperation with both Systems Engineers, Project Managers and Product Managers.

In close cooperation with the Systems Engineer, the Test Engineer: A) supports the ODM/OEM suppliers in executing product test and verification plans that are in accordance with standards, B) reviews all test documentation and associated reports, and C) conducts critical tests in-house or at 3rd party test facilities.

To support this, the Test Engineer can pull on resources and/or competencies from the team in China and from Engineering in our Product Responsible Unit (PRU) for Lighting at Harman Professional located in Aarhus, Denmark.

The Test Engineer will be located at SDC in Shenzehn, China

Job Responsibilities: List the professional and/or technical competencies needed when performing the key responsibilities of the position.  Explain the degree to which this position affects the business (i.e. making decisions, defining or setting strategy, etc.). Please further explain the breadth of the impact this position has (i.e. affects own team, department, function, division, geography, etc.).

  • Support test and verification activities at ODM/OEM supplier according to the Product Requirement Specification (PRS), standards, and use-scenarios.
  • Critical review of all test and verification documentation and associated reports.
  • Contribute to design reviews of samples, prototypes, and 0-series products, incl. FMEA and knowledge sharing.
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and document test and verification activities in-house or at 3rd party.
  • Ensure availability of test equipment, either in-house or at 3rd party.
  • Ensure proper product test documentation.
  • Identify, assess, and communicate risks reg. product performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Communicate closely with Systems Engineer (and Project Manager).
  • Support delivering products to the market on scope, time, cost, and quality.
  • Support quality assurance and supplier quality control.
  • Offer on-site support to exterior products provided by ODM/OEM suppliers.


Basic Qualifications: List the minimum and desired education (including degrees, licenses, certification or registrations) and experience needed to perform the key responsibilities of the position.

  • BS or MS in engineering, e.g. mechanical or electrical.
  • Min. 3-5 years experience in test and verification of electro-mechanical products preferably with ODM/OEM suppliers.
  • Experience with software testing.
  • Strong interest for product test/qualification and product quality.
  • Analytic, systematic, and pro-active approach to test and verification tasks.
  • Able to organize own time to ensure project progress.
  • Fluent in Chinese and English speech and writing.
  • Comfortable with fast-paced and multitasking environment.
