Job Responsibilities

Test & Validation is a critical function at Harman.  We are driven to innovate and automate to order to lead our industry in product quality.  The Senior Manager of Test & Validation will lead a group of 20-40 engineers and technicians, working in a collaborative environment to test and validate audio, video, and lighting products designed for global markets for Harman Professional.  The Senior Manager will be responsible for driving daily test and validation activities through the team, as well as providing hands-on development work as necessary. 


  • Assign and supervise test and validation resources to ensure Harman products meet stringent design and quality requirements.
  • Partner with Systems Engineers, Component Engineers, and Quality to ensure that Harman products meet stringent quality and reliability standards.
  • Work closely with Customer Service to quickly identify and fix field failures.
  • Drive innovation in people, processes, and technology to drive quality and reliability excellence.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive high-level test plans and validation strategies.
  • Develop short- and long-term test programs for component, system, and test facility validation.
  • Develop a team of world-class Test Engineers to achieve industry-leading quality benchmarks.
  • Propose and drive KPIs and metrics that demonstrate quality excellence.
  • Recommend and drive acquisition of tools and equipment to ensure quality, expand test coverage, and reduce test times.
  • Develop Fiscal Budget plans and provide monthly updates on spend, budgetary adjustments, and justifications for new capital requirements


  • Specific areas of focus for this team include:
    • Expertise in manual and automated test, preferably in audio, video, or lighting, including networked, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
    • Generate and provide application performance reports to Product Managers.
    • Continually improve testing methods and test designs.
    • Create manual test-cases and automation scripts for product under test.
    • Thoroughly document all test steps and issues in defect tracking system.
    • Timely automate functional, performance and regression level test cases.
    • Works closely with product development team during all phases of product testing.
    • Carry out end-to-end, user-focused test scenarios and document in test report and suggest optimizations.
    • Work with globally-distributed agile team to analyze, define, and execute testing tasks in single- or multi-iteration approach.


  • Set individual and departmental goals and provide performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Manage deliverable schedules and design times to meet product delivery, cost, quality, and reliability requirements.
  • Maintain and grow engineering staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.  
  • Develop and refine departmental workflows, tools, and processes to continuously improve time-to-market, product quality, and innovation.
  • Mentor direct reports and provide challenging assignments to grow individual and team skills.
  • Lead test and validation activities for assigned programs to ensure that products meet HARMAN specifications and that program milestones are achieved.



Basic Qualifications:


  • 10+ manual and automated test experience.
  • Strong passion for testing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Automation test experience is must on any of the tools like Audio Precision, NI, QTP, Test Complete, etc.
  • Scripted test development with VB, Python, Perl, etc.
  • Expertise in network protocols and network product testing.
  • Exposure to manual/automation testing of networked products.
  • Professional-level written and verbal English skills.
  • Ability to motivate direct reports to drive peak performance.


Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies:


  • Expertise in testing Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and networked systems.
  • Testing devices that have mobile and PC/Mac connectivity.
  • Statistical analysis background.
  • Experience with OEM and ODM factories, including production test, fixturing, yield analysis, etc.
  • Software and Linux development experience a plus.
  • Strong interest in music technology, professional audio/video.

Eligibility Requirements:


  • Willingness to travel locally 10% of the time.
  • Willingness to work in Shenzhen, PRC.
  • Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test.
