Senior Engineer, Lighting Systems

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to help manage development of lighting products for both retail and professional markets globally.

You will be part of a talented team of engineers based in our Shenzhen Development Center (SDC) at Harman that demonstrate ownership of the entire process from sourcing ODM/OEM suppliers to delivering products according to specification. This includes management of suppliers focusing on agreed requirements, continued risk assessment and follow-up on project progress. All this in close cooperation with both Project Managers and Product Managers.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for the entire product development; that the product requirement specification is understood and followed by the supplier, that test and verification activities are planned, executed, documented and made available, and that product data is handed over from the supplier to Harman. Futhermore the Systems Engineer must support the Project Manager in ensuring that the project is progressing according to plan at the same time managing risk that may delay the project.

To support this, the Systems Engineer can pull on resources and/or competencies from the team in China and from Engineering in our Product Responsible Unit (PRU) for Lighting at Harman Professional located in Aarhus, Denmark.

The Systems Engineer will be located at SDC in Shenzehn, China referring to Name, Department with a dotted line to Martin Elkjaer, Manager of Systems Engineering & Compliance, located in Aarhus, Denmark at the Lighting PRU.

Job Responsibilities: List the professional and/or technical competencies needed when performing the key responsibilities of the position.  Explain the degree to which this position affects the business (i.e. making decisions, defining or setting strategy, etc.).   • Source new ODM/OEM suppliers and products according to specifications and guidelines.
  • Evaluate product samples against the Product Requirement Specification (PRS) and the application environment.
  • Ensure that the PRS is understood and followed by supplier.
  • Ensure necessary and conclusive product design verification at supplier.
  • Coordinate and prioritize tests and verification activities in-house at SDC or third-party.
  • Ensure compliance testing according to use-scenarios.
  • Identify, assess, and control risks at product and project level.
  • Communicate closely and transparently with Project Manager (and Product Manager).
  • Deliver products to the market on scope, time, cost, and quality.
  • Support quality assurance and supplier quality control.
  • Offer on-site support to exterior products provided by ODM/OEM suppliers.


Basic Qualifications: List the minimum and desired education (including degrees, licenses, certification or registrations) and experience needed to perform the key responsibilities of the position.

  • BS or MS in engineering, e.g. mechanical or electrical.
  • Min. 5-10 years experience in development of electro-mechanical products preferably with ODM/OEM suppliers.
  • Analytical and pro-active decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Fluent in Chinese and English speech and writing.
  • Comfortable with fast-paced and multitasking environment.
