Position Summary:

Are you a Network Engineer with multicast routing experience (or studying to be) who wants to apply it towards something fun?  Do you enjoy rich, immersive Audio/Visual environments and want to create the best user experiences leveraging your network expertise?  


Harman Professional University empowers today's AV Professionals with the skills needed to deploy premiere installations and showcase Harman Professional technologies. We do this through industry-leading technical demonstration and training delivered via workshops, Instructor-Led Courses (ILC), On-Demand modules (OD), or Distance Learning activities.


Product Specialists collaborate with peers, members of Curriculum Development, Technical Support, and Solutions Management teams to present technical product training for the areas of Audio, Video, Networked AV, and Lighting. Team members understand the unique needs of adult learners and seek to provide a safe and open learning environment that leverages creative and innovative approaches that cater to multiple learning styles, and explain ever-changing technical concepts.


Product Specialists are also responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for Harman products and solutions. The Sr Product Specialist must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.


Travel required (up to 50%)  Willingness to work remote.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Educate a varied audience comprised of employees, partners, and customers with both technical and sales training material through Instructor Led Courses, On-Demand modules, or Distance Learning
  • Understand, and be able to communicate competitive advantages of Harman Professional solutions.
  • Responsible for presenting corporate, product, and solutions presentations to customers at field events such as tradeshows, conferences, roadshows, etc.
  • Act as interface to product management team, assuring market needs/requirements are communicated internally while assuring portfolio goals are properly understood and communicated to the field.
  • Manage the activities involved in the preparation, delivery, and needs assessment of training programs
  • Recommend program enhancements and assist curriculum developers in modify existing materials to ensure highest standards of service to all learners
  • Teach and conduct Train-the-Trainer courses to both internal and external customers
  • Conduct both pre-and post- training analysis to determine if stated objective and desired impact was achieved
  • Maintain consistency of the training program and contribute to its ongoing improvement
  • Review and grade certification exams as assigned
  • Contribute to new curriculum as Subject Matter Experts
  • Apply adult learning and accelerated learning techniques
  • Manage assigned tasks and schedules.

Basic Qualifications:


Field Experience


  • 3-5+ years relevant experience in audio/visual, control, and networking design, implementation, sales, and support with specific familiarity and experience of Harman Professional solutions
  • Has been in-person, frontline customer service-oriented interface to system users and managers. 
  • Has successfully performed Technical Training and/or Sales Engineering for a minimum of 3 years with exceptionally positive feedback from other opportunity stakeholders and customers.


Technical Competencies


Network Technologies

  • Cloud, Collaboration, Data Center, Routing and Switching, Security, Wireless, IoT.  Is conversant in - and can demonstrate - professional experience working with network architecture, including core and edge devices.


Operating Systems

  • Has professional experience using, managing, and troubleshooting open and embedded operating systems including, but not limited to, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, VxWorks.



  • Has exposure to and/or minimal scripting and/or software development experience in multiple object-oriented languages – preferably including any combination of the following: C++, Java, JavaScript, Lua, PHP, HTML5.



  • Server, Desktop, App & Desktop Virtualization (VDI, VMWare, Hyper-V, Citrix), Application, Database, Developer.  Candidate must be conversant in latest applications with practical experience managing complex combinations of applications to satisfy business function.


Audio Visual Technologies

  • Candidate must have practical experience working with Audio and Video Transport and Streaming Technologies (JPEG2000, h.264, h.265, HDBase-T, AVB, AES67, Dante), Web RTC and Collaboration Tools, Microphones, Audio Signal Processing, Mixing, Amplification, and Sound Reproduction.  Candidate will also be conversant in Architectural Acoustics. Architectural Lighting, Display Technologies, and other industry technologies relevant to the delivery of audio, video, and lighting.




  • Demonstrates competent use of a minimum of one computer aided drafting utility (AutoCad, Visio, etc) for the purpose of electronic design documentation creation, editing, and review.
  • Demonstrates competent use of electronic  datasheet/spreadsheet tools (Excel, Numbers, etc) for the purpose of organizational management of project information (system types, part numbers, descriptions, pricing, etc)
  • Can independently select all the necessary Harman and 3rd party components (with required accessories) to satisfy customers’ project requirements for audio/visual signal flow and automation architecture.
  • Demonstrates advanced comprehension of prime competitors’ product offerings in order to assess competitive designs and offer Harman-centric alternative designs.
  • Can independently assemble and configure demo systems used for the purpose of customer demonstrations and training.
  • Can independently present products and solutions presentations to audiences of varied sizes and through various formats.
  • Can assess deployed integrated systems for optimization, upgrade, and/or conversion opportunity.
  • High degree of self-motivation and flexibility
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet project deadlines is required
  • Can independently assess technology requirements, plan hardware and personnel resources, and execute Proof of Concept customer efforts.
  • Can independently develop presentation content that incorporates baseline product information with opportunity and/or market specific context in a manner that persuades deeper partnering and buying behaviors.
  • Is requested as the “go-to” expert for the most demanding of customer engagements, demonstrating extreme intellectual and personal agility to satisfy complex audience/attendee dynamics.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field
  • Previous training experience within the industry or similar technical field
  • GUI Design / Human Interface experience. Knowledge of control methods and interfaces
  • Certified CompTIA Network+ (or higher)

  • Certified InfoComm CTS (or higher)
  • Certified Cisco CCNA (or higher)
  • Possesses Harman Certified Professional Designer, Installer, and Programmer certifications across minimum of 1 Harman technology (Audio, Video, Network, Lighting)
  • Certified CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent)
  • Certified CompTIA CTT+ (or equivalent)
  • Deep understanding of programming theory, logic, and methods
  • Ideal candidate is self-motivated with a proven track record in technology and software sales support with particular experience in audio visual, control, digital signage, and networking technologies.


Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.  
  • Willingness to work in remote office as required by posted position.
