Position Summary:   

The Sr. Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Process is responsible for all process development to support the launch of products globally that are designed in North America.  The AME process engineering team is involved in the early phases of new products to provide RFQ support to determine capital and labor estimates and also drives design for manufacturing to ensure the new product will be able to hit quality and cost targets.  Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, AME Process, the group will develop a manufacturing plan to industrialize a new product. Industrialization includes the determination of manufacturing processes required to produce the product and requires development of new fixtures and potentially new processes to support high volume manufacturing. As an minor part the job holder will direct selected global projects in both technical and transactional domains that meet key business requirements.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct reports may include people with any level of technical expertise through all levels of process engineering and direct report managers.  The number of direct reports for this position is typically 5 to 10. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for driving all process development from concept through production for automotive electronics developed in North America.  The primary focus of the position is leading and managing the Advanced Manufacturing Process Engineering group.  This includes driving recruiting; actively managing and developing personnel, managing a departmental budget, continuously improving processes and performance, meeting important company goals, reporting key information to upper management, timely completion of projects, and generally providing solid leadership. 

  • Drives project management and resource allocation interactions. Manage organization of Process Engineers with approximately 5 to 10 direct reports and total organization of 10 to 15.
  • Manage budgets for entire organization approximately $2M total including compensation, benefits, and expense
  • Assist in managing capital projects totaling over $10M per year.
  • Develop and maintain a highly capable technical team with excellent customer service skills by creating an environment that fosters innovations, teamwork and empowers the team to identify and implement new solutions with cost, footprint reductions and improved quality.
  • Drive for standardization globally with all manufacturing regions.
  • Support RFQ activities and support the IPM, HW, SW teams and plant engineering groups to ensure successful new product launch.
  • Design for Manufacturability - ensure future product are designed to minimize the manufacturing cost and align with process capability and are taking into account lessons learned.
  • Define a process and technology roadmap for future audio and infotainment products including new technology and new processes.
  • Develop and maintain a highly capable technical team with excellent customer service skills that provide input to the pilot builds and throughout the product development lifecycle as well as support and train the manufacturing process teams.
  • Drive engaged support for pilot factory builds to ensure product quality and delivery goals are met.  commitments are met
  • Drive for standardization globally with all manufacturing regions on process equipment and materials used in the manufacturing processes (solder, flux, coating, etc.) to ensure global standards
  • Work with IPM, HW, and process engineering groups to ensure successful new product launch that hits project timing, budget (labor minutes, scrap, capital spend), and expected quality performance.
  • Supports global VAVE projects for AME
  • Leads selected global projects with interculurell aspects and process standardization projects to ensure common practices used across all regions
  • Plan and manage project budget, time schedule, and resources
  • Ensure transparent reporting to Senior Management
  • Reports to Sr. Director – AME NA

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor and/or Master degree, Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical)
  • 10+ years of automotive electronics manufacturing experience in high volume environment and 3+ years related experience in project/line management
  • Strong technical leadership – ability to pull team together to resolve problems and overcome obstacles
  • Fundamental knowledge in terms of methodologies in project management specifically in planning and controlling
  • Thorough understanding of complex automotive electronics and audio system and data exchange associated with provisioning and maintaining traceability.
  • Extensive experience in managing technical teams and building bench strength.
  • Proven verbal/written communication and demonstrated human relationship skills.
  • Ability to develop technology roadmap and drive team to maintain the direction.
  • Ability to influence other organizations to support team and be compliant to manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong, hands-on experience in designing and implementing process best practices in fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without detailed direction while managing sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from senior management, clients, customers and employees.
