Position Summary:

This position resides within HARMAN’s Global Operations Organization leading the Product Sourcing team for HARMAN’s Car Audio SBU within the Lifestyle Audio Division for the Americas and Asia Pacific Region. The Product Sourcing organization provides the Car Audio SBU with dedicated value chain leadership over the complete product life cycle for automotive Speakers, Amplifiers, and Microphones.  This function creates value by delivering cost, quality, delivery, and risk objectives that support HARMAN’s customers by leading supply chain for the Car Audio business.  Through customer quote processes, sourcing activities for new products, executing successful new product launches, and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain, the Director, Product Sourcing role has a significant impact to the success of the Car Audio SBU.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Will have at least two Product Sourcing Direct Reports.

 

Job Responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for Product Sourcing for the AAP (Americas and Asia Pacific) region for the Car Audio SBU of the Lifestyle Audio Division.  The Director, Product Sourcing will have oversight for +$250M in annual Speaker, Amplifier, and Microphone program spend for the AAP region, the successful execution of ~30 programs ($800M lifetime spend) across +5 major customers and ~150 car platforms, and delivering best initial costs to win new business.  Additionally, this role will be the global lead for Speaker Product Sourcing ($1.5B lifetime spend).  In this capacity, this role will drive design to cost and ensuring best practices for sourcing Speakers across all three regions for Car Audio.  It will be the expert in total cost of Car Audio’s Speaker platforms and help drive the strategy for future roadmaps with the Engineering and Advanced Sourcing teams.

 

DESIGN – Global Speaker Lead

  • Lead the development and execution of global sourcing strategy for Speakers
  • Create “competitive advantages” for Speakers using sourcing/supply chain tools while avoiding unplanned and unnecessary risks in the Pre-concept and Pre-development product phases
  • Provide sourcing guidance and best cost references for Speakers in Global business cases
  • Ensure best practice sourcing strategies for Speakers are deployed and evaluated during Design Validation phase

 

WIN – Best Initial Cost

  • Responsible for Total Landed BOM / BOL Cost in business cases to be quoted for all customer pursuits
  • Lead design reviews for programs to establish a best initial cost baseline and assess supply chain risk
  • Define cost targets and actions needed for Direct Materials, Logistics, and Outsourcing to support Best Initial Costs to win customer pursuits
  • Serve as Program Gate 2 Approver for BOM/BOL costs and responsible for defining sourcing strategy for all programs

 

EXECUTE – Business Case and Strategic Sourcing Deliverables

  • Drive organizational execution for Supply Chain and Procurement to meet program milestones for all pre-SOP programs
  • Lead cost down initiatives for pre-SOP programs to achieve business case cost, quality, and delivery assumptions
  • Lead dual sourcing and design to cost strategies during the Design Validation stage
  • Owner for outsourcing Make vs. Buy decision process to deliver the target cost structure and customer requirements while enabling a flexible capacity model for HARMAN manufacturing

 

IMPROVE – Cost Optimization

  • Responsible for year over year cost reductions to achieve Division cost savings targets
  • Lead cross-functional VA/VE workshops to identify cost down and design to cost opportunities in running programs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, or Liberal Arts
  • 10+ years of relevant working experience preferably in the areas of procurement, engineering, program management, quality, or product development, with a record of increasing responsibility
  • Ability to work independently, establishing priorities, setting goals and decision making
  • High financial aptitude and strong business acumen

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or MBA preferred
  • Capable problem solver
  • Ability to successfully lead a team to achieve stretch targets
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working in a highly matrixed organization

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel 15-20%
  • Willingness to work in an office in Novi, MI
