Position Summary:

 

The infotainment hardware group is seeking a Sr. Manager, to lead  the Mechanical Engineering group and manage, direct and supervise Senior & Principal ME engineers who would be responsible for the packaging and mechanical accommodation of high performance automotive infotainment head units incorporating navigation, voice recognition, and wireless connectivity all wrapped around an audiophile sound system. This position will directly report to the Director of Engineering and provides design support for the realization and manufacture of an infotainment product using the Harman design and development processes.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

This position will supervise the role of mechanical engineers.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide leadership for Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of fundamental ,  mechanical packaging for automotive infotainment head units and silver boxes, packaging feasibility and performs thermal simulation, vibration, and shock analysis
  • Leadership of projects to meet strict deadlines and ensure design meets product specification
  • Self-starter and self-motivated.
  • High level of leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and can interface with peers and OEM customers.
  • Technical expert in mechanical, plastics, faceplate and automotive packaging.
  • Compliant to all processes and policies.
  • Managing off-site team in Queretaro, Mexico remotely. Support by setting up a team and reporting structure.
  • Ensure product meets customer and internal requirements, specifications and cost targets.
  • Provide preprogram support with quick turn designs/samples and technical documentation as required.
  • Prepare documents and reports with cross functional teams for engineering and program management along with participating in design reviews with customers and executive management. 
  • Manage product timelines to meet overall project goals.
  • Manages the production BOM's.  Updates & Releases BOM's using Harman's configuration management & PLM systems.
  • Supports the development program documentation, PPAP’s, and FMEA's.
  • Assisting in the realization of customer requirements and specifications (RFC, RFI, RFQ), product test plans, and production QA processes as needed to ensure the development and manufacture of quality products.
  • Technical support for the industrialization of functional items in an international environment.
  • Assist in the product conformance testing for environmental performance to automotive and customer requirements.
  • Occasional travel both international and domestic
  • Ability to work with cross functional product development teams.
  • Participates in automotive & technology forums such as SAE  and/or ITS.
  • Keep abreast of technology trends and provides advice on the adoption of technology for new products.

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • MSEE
  • This position requires 15+ years of experience performing mechanical engineer packaging electronic components and assemblies into automotive products or related products.
  • ProE Wildfire and Creo 2.0 preferred CAD systems.
  • Catia V4 or V5 is negotiable.
  • ANSYS, ProMechanica, Flowtherm or IcePack FEA software preferred.
  • Team Center document management.
  • GD&T, APQP, Tolerance Stackup Analysis, Vibration system fundamentals, Statistical Analysis,
  • Design of Experience and Design for Failure Modes Effect Analysis knowledge required.
  • Automotive mechanical packaging
  • Management of a group of engineers
  • Experience working in both small and large organizations
  • Extensive direct interaction with customers
  • Proven track record of designing systems to meet rigorous EMC requirements
  • Must really love developing cool things to put into cars.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage complex hardware development projects to successful completion and on time
  • Structured goal and result orientated working style.
  • Strong communication skills.  Good knowledge in spoken and written English.

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Willingness to work in an office in Novi, MI.
