Job Title: Sr Eng. - Product Development Process

Department: Hardware Engineering

Location: Novi, MI


Position Summary: This position is for a Product Development Process engineer within the HARMAN division.  Products that will be developed are OEM automotive amplifiers and speakers.  Amplifiers typically consist of a main microcontroller for configuration, communication and control and a DSP for audio processing.  This position leads the engineering process development activity to ensure we adhere to Harman and automotive processes.  Responsible for process development, documentation, auditing, mentoring, training, and supporting assessments.   Responsible for working with cross functional development teams to gain acceptance of process requirements and working with an offshore team as required to support process improvement.  


Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the product development process activity for hardware, mechanical and transducer engineering.
  • Provide auditing of engineering work products for adherence to the defined processes.
  • Responsible for process development, documentation, auditing, mentoring, training, and supporting assessments.
  • Train and support the engineers in understanding and using the defined development process.
  • Provide leadership for assessments and assessment readiness.
  • Participate in a cross-project quality team to define and evaluate quality improvement goals.
  • Coordinate with global teams for commonization of engineering processes.  This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups, including international travel to Mexico.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience; alternatively, Master’s Degree in above mentioned fields and at least 1 year of experience in product development
  • Experience working in the technology industry or automotive industry
  • Strong knowledge of product development processes and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of quality techniques and tools.
  • Strong understanding of the automotive product development lifecycle
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable project management and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experienced with the development of automotive electronics modules and systems.
  • Experienced with helping an organization to reach advanced levels of ASPICE or equivalent process models.
  • Familiarity with audio product development.
  • Familiarity with development and defect tracking tools such as JIRA.
  • ISO 26262 Certification
  • Experienced working with global development teams.
  • Experienced at communicating and interfacing directly to the OEM customers.
