Position Summary:  

An exciting career with Harman provides our employees with the opportunity to work with the newest advanced automotive in-vehicle technologies on the market.  WIth this role, you'll gain experience supporting external customers and internal teams members in a face paced, challeging environment. The Systems team oversees how Hardware, Software, and Mechanicals work together to integrate into the vehicle, as well as the performance and stability of the system.   The successful Systems Engineer will bring together the Hardware, Software, and Mechanical Engineering teams to maintain a stable, well-performing and predictable system that the customer is proud to have in their vehicles.  

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the system architects in Russia and India for performance fine tuning of the product.
  • Prepare system model working with the architects in Germany/India.
  • Feature lead for Suspend to RAM.
  • Owner of Hardware Software Interface Specification working closely with Hardware and Software teams.
  • Support and lead the implementation and validation of the system integrations
  • Optimize KPI performance through data provided by analytics tools.  This includes coordination of activity across multiple domains to achieve the desired customer experience
  • Help root cause complex warranty items in support of post launch activity
  • Support teams outside of the software engineering and hardware engineering teams to understand the product.  (Manufacturing, Quality, Warranty, and Test)
  • This role is a customer interfacing technical role that is supports the systems engineering efforts
  • Work with the customer and other team members to define the customer experience with the other modules and external devices

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science
  • 5 years of embedded software development or testing
  • Must have general knowledge of automotive infotainment systems and their applications
  • Recent significant systems/software experience with complex development cycles that span multiple release versions
  • Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and the customer
  • Must have a "whatever-it-takes" attitude using diplomatic leadership skills within a collaborative teamwork environment to accomplish the necessary results
  • Proven and effective communication, analytical, judgment, initiative and execution skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of embedded operating systems
  • Working knowledge of software development tools (debuggers, compilers, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of software development processes
  • Experience in developing drivers and other embedded components
  • Experience in QNX, Linux, or Android for development on Infotainment, Audio or Multimedia products
  • Experience in designing complex system architecture
  • Vehicle networking experience including CAN, LIN, MOST, etc.
  • Working knowledge of physical communication buses including: I2C, RS232, SPI or other serial interfaces.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • System thinking and leadership capabilities
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving capability such as reproducing complex software defects
  • Capable project management and time management skills
  • Ability to read schematics and debug analog and digital hardware
  • Able to use oscilloscope and logic analyzer for troubleshooting

  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • Willingness to work in an office in Novi, MI
