Position Summary:

We are a fast-paced, start-up-feel group of talented inventors, engineers, researchers, and designers, reporting directly into the Connected Car Division. The team aims to be the most forward-thinking group in the company and is focused on leveraging future user experiences (UX) and displays, connecting the dots between cutting-edge technologies, deep research, rapid end-to-end prototyping, and bringing that into products. This role is responsible to manage the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for product management across a vertical within the overall UX/UI product roadmap.
  • Working with the assigned CBU counterparts, open new customer opportunities including RFQ pursuits in legacy and new customer accounts.
  • As the subject matter expert, this role will work closely with the Customer Business Units (sales) and RFQ teams to support the creation of proposals in response to RFI's, RFQ's and RFP's for displays and UX solutions.
  • Work closely with customer engineering teams to understand requirements, influence the customers’ technical direction and to build confidence in Harman’s products and product delivery capabilities.
  • Develop functional and technical specifications to include effective product and user interface design and rapid prototyping.
  • Manage RFQs, while ensuring that the product strategy is adhered to throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work with the Marketing and Product Management teams to create collateral that can be utilized in a lead generation programs (trade shows, workshops, videos, white papers, etc). Assemble such programs to facilitate account penetration and an active network.
  • Evaluate new functionality that should be applied to existing product and customization.
  • Own the full product lifecycle, from strategic planning to tactical activities to ensure on-time product delivery maintaining automotive standards.
  • Manage the internal and external product development activities within the UX/UI space.
  • Build and manage relationships with internal cross-functional teams.
  • Support engineering team, CBU, and procurement team with providing technical details for RFI's, RFQ's, POC's received from various OEM.
  • Responsible for product demonstration to support technical days, customer meetings, internal demos.
  • Continuously monitor risks proactively, identify risks and coordinate meetings with multi-discipline functions to address risks before they become issues.
  • Co-ordinate with suppliers on roadmap and discussions as needed.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Physics, Optics Engineering or another related field such as User Experience
  • 12+ years of experience in a product development, program management role with at least 5+ years with the responsibility for product management of advanced technology products development and delivery.
  • Broad technical background and previous work experience with general knowledge of advanced displays, advanced interfaces (haptics, gestures, touch, and cameras), full-windshield head-up displays, and occupant monitoring solutions. 
  • Proven product management experience working in the technology industry or automotive industry.
  • Experience developing product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies.
  • A self-starter and strong team player who can successfully navigate the organization to reach business goals.
  • Proven and effective communication, analytical, judgment, initiative and execution skills. Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business. Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision-making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and the customer.
  • Must be an active listener astute in the technology who can probe for customer needs, identify gaps in the product line and ideate on areas of differentiation. Must be able to distill ideas from discussions with customers, suppliers and industry participants that help the Product Management teams in their roadmap synthesis.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, business, or related field
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in an automotive OEM, tier-1 or tier-2 supplier of displays and user interface components.
  • International management and cross-functional coordination experience with teams in Asia and Europe
  • Experience managing external and internal vendors/partners.
  • Ability to communicate advanced and complex concepts and ideas persuasively and concisely to all levels of the business including creation and presentation of compelling content.
  • Keep abreast of technology trends and provides advice on the adoption of technology for new products.

  • Willingness to travel ~30% of the time.
  • Willingness to work in the Novi, MI office.
