The Strategic Business Unit (SBU) Consumer Audio SBU belongs to Lifestyle Audio Division, is a world leader in premium electronic products for consumers approaching $2B annual sales revenue. We are looking for a Vice President to lead Global Operations for the SBU based in Shenzhen China. 

 

Position Summary:

The Senior Vice President, Global Procurement will be responsible for directing and leading all global direct and indirect procurement for all segments within HARMAN.  He/She is also responsible for coaching and guiding team members in building end-to-end procurement strategies and ensuring compliance to the strategic sourcing process to optimize and leverage spend.  This position will also be responsible for delivering financial and negotiated savings targets, innovation, and continuous improvement in total cost of ownership year over year, while maintaining or improving global product quality and supplier service levels.  The sourcing organization plays a key role in contributing to forward looking technology choices HARMAN makes to secure its leading position in the various business sectors in which it operates.  He/She will be responsible for category management, strategic sourcing and supplier performance management, ensuring a competitive advantage from suppliers via access to technology and service partnership with respect to competitive cost, availability, service ability, and mutual time-to-market strategies. This person will also work with suppliers to form a risk management strategy.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Global Procurement team consists of Direct Material Category Management, an Indirect Procurement team, an Automotive Outsourcing team, a Supplier Quality Engineering team and a Software & License team.  In total, the team is approximately 200 employees globally, about 1/3 each in the Americas, Europe, and Asia

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a global procurement strategy and establish purchasing budgets, plans, policies, systems, and procedures within the organization.
  • Create a high-performing global purchasing organization that is supported by best-practice processes, procedures, metrics and systems, necessary to achieve business targets, optimize financial results, and increase the overall performance and effectiveness of the business.
  • Develop and adapt enterprise procurement global strategies based upon continuous monitoring and forecasting of impacting variable market conditions.
  • Identify, evaluate, and capitalize on global opportunities to reduce sourcing and purchasing costs by establishing contracts that improve the organization's buying patterns.
  • Serve as strategic thought leader to the senior management teams; advancing development and implementation of best practices in sourcing, supplier management, risk management, and category management.
  • Set global negotiation strategies for the most complex, high value and strategically important third party relationships to secure terms that are in the organization's best interest.
  • Ability to negotiate new contractual terms and interpret existing contracts, demonstrating an understanding of legal principles.
  • Form internal partnerships, assessing the capabilities of suppliers and service providers, shifting spend to better performing entities while driving continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate presentations to senior level management related to new contracts, supplier programs, tools, technology, and group achievements.
  • Foster meaningful global business relationships across business units to ensure the effectiveness of procurement strategies, and deploy Subject Matter Experts as necessary to cement change.
  • Manage procurement staffing across existing global sourcing functions.
  • Execute functional responsibilities in a manner that strengthens business partner and supplier relationships.
  • Select and manage procurement systems.
  • Develop benchmarks and scorecards to use for continuous improvement; creation and improvement of best-practice based processes and procedures.
  • Network externally with key suppliers and industry/non-industry peers in order to stay abreast of key trends and leading indicators affecting Purchasing and Supply Management

 

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, technical degree preferred
  • At least 20 years of experience in strategic and operational procurement functions or technical project management
  • Successful track record developing and implementing a strategic sourcing program and procurement function for a complex growth business.   
  • Significant specific experience with driving continuous cost reductions, improving service levels, and managing key vendor partnerships.  
  • Disciplined negotiator with 10 years’ experience in large contract negotiations; able to balance cost, financial, quality, and legal terms in complex negotiations
  • Strong understanding of how to optimize landed cost with supplier and delivery risk through tough negotiation, good vendor selection, and appropriate contract terms
  • Demonstrated management skills

  • Strong multi-cultural leadership, management, and analytical skills
  • Respected by leading suppliers in the automotive space as a trustworthy executive who has been successfully involved in complex sourcing agreements and ventures

  • Willingness to travel approximately 30-40%.
