Position Summary:

Americas & Asia-Pacific (AAP) RFQ Program manager leads cross-functional teams to adhere to the Global Car Audio RFQ process, resulting in RFQ response preparations for Harman’s customers which are competitive and aligned with Harman Lifestyle Car Audio business targets.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any direct or indirect reports.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Simultaneously manage multiple RFQ response project teams (systems, speaker, and/or amplifier), requiring contributions from virtually all functions within the Car Audio business line. 
  • Active steering during RFQ phase for all AAP Car Audio projects in close cooperation with management-level peer team including CBUs, Finance Controlling, and other organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Management, …).
  • Understand Harman’s business strategy, convert into action plans, and direct the RFQ team accordingly.
  • Set team goals for timeliness, customer issues, and quality.  Lead team to meet goals.
  • Identify RFQ response issues as early as possible and drive resolution at the team level.  If resolutions requires management intervention, escalate to appropriate management personnel with proposed alternatives.
  • Negotiate resource allocations from functional managers.  When a resource conflict occurs, negotiate a solution with functional managers and other program managers.
  • Ensure prompt decision-making is executed by promoting consensus decisions, intervening when consensus decision-making fails, and making unilateral decisions in the case of a deadlock.
  • Understand the technical detail of the products used in all systems, including electrical, software, mechanical, and acoustics performance.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of RFQ preparation in terms of product cost estimations and feasibility
  • Audit task completion.  Report major deviations from plan to appropriate management.
  • Continuously identify and steer measurements to improve Business Cases during quotation phases:
    • Analyzing, comparing and optimizing engineering and manufacturing estimations
    • Implementing best practices from and into other projects
    • Identifying critical cost drivers (in general) / interfacing with Value Engineering / Value Analysis
  • Interfacing to customer and perform presentations
  • Implementing and maintaining global continuous improvement process for RFQs
  • Cross-regional communication with RFQ teams in other global regions.
  • Set up and maintain general RFQ database and checklists (Engineering / Manufacturing)
  • Reporting towards Director Global RFQ
  • Regular reporting towards internal management including senior executive level.

 

 

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

  • REQUIRED Specific Knowledge, Expertise, Coursework
    • Project Planning, problem solving, multi-tasking, project management skills
    • Hardworking, dedicated individual who takes ownership of issues and leads senior management teams toward successful resolution
    • Technical knowledge of the Audio systems and Automotive Electronics strongly preferred
    • Good business/financial acumen is preferred
    • Experience in RFQ response preparation is preferred
    • Understanding of, and experience with, Harman’s BMS, ODA, Project Systems, FACTON, Sales Force systems is preferred
  • REQUIRED Degree and/or Training, including specifically defined educational equivalent
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in Engineering, Science, or Business Administration
  • REQUIRED Certifications/Licenses
    • PMP certification preferred but not required.
    • Six Sigma certification preferred but not required.
  • REQUIRED Specific Prior Experiences
    • 5+ years related experience in automotive product development program management, sales, quality, design, engineering management, or process engineering, or advanced manufacturing planning
    • Product development background in Automotive Electronics and Audio systems strongly preferred.
  • REQUIRED Physical Demands
    • Will be able to travel globally to customer locations and Harman facilities occasionally

  • Willingness to work in an office in Novi, MI.
