Position Summary:

We are a fast paced, start-up-feel, group of talented inventors, engineers, researchers, and designers, reporting directly into the Connected Car Division. The Principal Engineer for Optics Systems will be dedicated to the development of the next generation HUDs and Occupant monitoring systems. This role will report directly the Director of the Product Line HUD. The scope of this position includes the optics design, camera module, SoC selection, and functional safety design considerations.   The ideal candidate will have good analytical skills, knowledge of engineering discipline, and experience in optics, vision, and safety products.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have direct reports.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for camera optics through whole product lifecycle, including road-mapping through design into mass productions.
  • Provides optical design and development expertise on ongoing projects of moderate size and complexity, implementation of new technologies, and all other assigned projects.
  • Work with cross-functional team to create concepts, Response RFI, quote RFQs and design products. 
  • Working with the Architects to support the defined camera system features
  • Taking a leading role in dealing with suppliers to understand their capabilities and ultimately defining selection criteria for electrical components.
  • Lead team in all optics related discussions with Automotive OEMs, such as HUDs and eye tracking camera modules.
  • Suggest/recommend new concepts for improving optical design capabilities including feasibility studies and engineering analyses
  • Support optical design and technical suggestions to mechanical engineers and designers for new product development and production projects.
  • Defining the requirements for Camera electrical hardware including requirements for automotive lenses
  • Determines system requirements, current, and future, for camera systems and HUD systems.
  • Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting of optical and display related issues including simulate lens and camera performance.
  • Develop, control, and support engineering data and technical documents.
  • Assist in creating testing requirements to ensure that optical components and camera designs meet system requirements
  • Support product development timing such as Mockup sample build, DV/PV Test, EMC Test, etc.
  • Technical support for the industrialization of function optical components and camera an international environment.
  • Responsible to perform job duties with maintaining corporate privacy policy, health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Advanced degree in an Optics related field  - Physics, Camera Optics, preferred
  • 12+ years of engineering experience
  • Extensive experience in all optical components – backlighting of displays and camera modules technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of TFT/DLP HUD and Imaging /Camera optical mechanical components, aspherical and folding mirrors, LCD imaging source, backlighting technology, LED optimization for proper color/brightness and stepper motors.
  • In-depth knowledge from a systems engineering approach to mitigate unwanted attributes, such as imaging aberrations, ghost-double images, glare, light leak, stray light, thermal and mechanical noise
  • Experience in backscattering technique used for instrument and interior illumination studies
  • Understanding the requirements for implementation of displays in an automotive environment
  • Experience in measurement and automotive qualification of display, optical and performance criteria (brightness, contract, durability, etc.).
  • 5+ Years in the automotive industry
  • Proficiency with standard engineering tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of display manufacturing, interfacing and backlighting systems for LCD display systems
  • Knowledge of optical films used in display technology
  • Knowledge of SW tools -  LIGHTTOOLS, Catia V5, TracePro, ASAP, Zemax, MATLAB, CodeV

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle systems and ADAS/Active Safety development
  • Working knowledge of ISO26262 Specification
