Experience Center Technical Engineer is responsible for the overall & ongoing event preparation, support, maintenance, functionality, and upgrades of the Experience Center located at the Harman Professional HQ in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Northridge CA.  The Experience Center is highly visibile by HARMAN employees, our partners, and is visited by clients from all of our vertical markets.  This role is as versatile as everyday functionality verification for a demo to complete branding of the space to match a client’s needs & to make them feel extremely welcome.


This Experience Center is a new 15,000-square-foot, multi-functional facility that showcases HARMAN Professional Solutions in a variety of entertainment & enterprise market applications. The Experience Center demonstrates the integration of brands including JBL Professional®, AKG Acoustics®, AMX®, BSS Audio®, Crown International®, dbx Professional®, DigiTech®, Lexicon Pro®, Martin®, Soundcraft® and Studer®.

It is comprised of several dedicated spaces including a unique (and Technical GRAMMY-adorned) grand entrance corridor featuring lighting effects & audio synced to an 18’x10’ Samsung LED video wall; a product showroom filled with HARMAN solutons including our Connected Retail Experience, Connected Huddle Space, Voice-enabled Cognitive Hotel Room, Home Rocording, Networked AVoIP, and more;  a 6000 square-foot Soundstage delivering live entertainment audio, video, & lighting demos for House of Worship, Nightclub, Performing Arts, & Touring; and practical-use Café, Boardroom, & Training Center spaces that simultaneiously demonstrate HARMAN solutions in restaurant, corporate, and education settings.



Job Responsibilities

  • Ongoing functionality verification.  The Experience Center is frequently visited by HARMAN executive leadership, our industry partners, and both existing & potential end customers.


  • Prepare and customize the space for events & customer visits.  This preparation could include digital signage content creation, programming additions, and overall Experience Center setup, customization, & decoration to fit our clients’ branding image.


  • Manage Experience Center event scheduling. Assist HARMAN employee hosts/hostesses before, during, & after presentations and/or events.


  • Make recommendations to Marketing for additions, modifications, and/or upgrades based on HARMAN employee and customer feedback.


  • Identify, troubleshoot, & resolve issues that arise in the space, and involve additional HARMAN resources as needed to assist.


  • Arrange shipping of gear to & from site, if needed.


  • Manage assigned tasks & schedules.


  • Other duties related to the maintenance & support of the Experience Center, as assigned.


Basic Qualifications



  • Possesses a minimum of one industry foundational certification (CTS, CCNA, etc)
  • Possesses Harman Certified Professional Designer, Installer, and Programmer certifications in at least 1 Harman product vertical (Audio, Video, Network AV, Lighting)


Field Experience


  • Has supported the project – by participation in the design, installation, and commissioning – of basic integrated technology systems
  • Has had practical experience installing and configuring Harman hardware/software solutions.
  • Has been in-person, frontline customer service-oriented interface to system users and managers. 


Technical Competencies

Network Technologies

  • Cloud, Collaboration, Data Center, Routing and Switching, Security, Wireless, IoT.  Is conversant in - and can demonstrate - professional experience working with network architecture, including core and edge devices.


Operating Systems

  • Has professional experience using, managing, and troubleshooting open and embedded operating systems including, but not limited to, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, VxWorks.


  • Has practical scripting and/or software development experience in multiple object oriented languages – preferably including any combination of the following: C++, Java, JavaScript, Lua, PHP, HTML5.



  • Server, Desktop, App & Desktop Virtualization (VDI, VMWare, Hyper-V, Citrix), Application, Database, Developer.  Candidate must be conversant in latest applications with practical experience managing complex combinations of applications to satisfy business function.


Audio Visual Technologies

  • Candidate must have practical experience working with Audio and Video Transport and Streaming Technologies (JPEG2000, h.264, h.265, HDBase-T, AVB, AES67, Dante), Web RTC and Collaboration Tools, Microphones, Audio Signal Processing, Mixing, Amplification, and Sound Reproduction.  Candidate will also be conversant in Architectural Acoustics, Architectural Lighting, Display Technologies, and other industry technologies relevant to the delivery of audio, video, and lighting.




  • Demonstrates competent use of a minimum of one computer aided drafting utility (AutoCad, Visio, etc) for the purpose of electronic design documentation creation, editing, and review.
  • Demonstrates competent use of electronic datasheet/spreadsheet tools (Excel, Numbers, etc) for the purpose of organizational management of project information (system types, part numbers, descriptions, pricing, etc)
  • Can independently select all the necessary Harman and 3rd party components (with required accessories) to satisfy customers’ project requirements for audio/visual signal flow and automation architecture.
  • Is able to engage with any customer as a technical subject expert for 75% of Harman current product offerings.
  • Can independently assemble and configure demo systems used for the purpose of customer demonstrations and training.
  • Can independently present products and solutions presentations to audiences of varied sizes and through various formats.
  • Can assess deployed integrated systems for optimization, upgrade, and/or conversion opportunity.
  • High degree of self-motivation and flexibility
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet project deadlines is required


Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent discipline is strongly preferred. 
  • 3-5+ years relevant experience in audio/visual, control, digital signage, and networking design, implementation, sales, and support with specific familiarity and experience of Harman Audio and Control solutions.


Eligibility Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.  Typical travel is less than 10%.
  • Willingness to work in assigned corporate office as required by posted position.
  • Willingness to work in Northridge, CA.
