Position Summary:

The Manager; Consumer Audio Marketing – Customer Marketing will lead the brand development of HARMAN’s Consumer Audio in key major metro markets in the US (NY, LA, Mia, Chi, San Fran).  Leveraging both B2C and B2B tactics and solutions with key customers, this role is responsible for elevating Harman’s customer experience and consumer marketing activities.  This person will act as the bridge between sales and marketing to develop Customer programs in these must win markets.  These programs will grow share by increasing excitement with Customers and increasing demand with consumers.  These programs will also seek to drive buzz from press to help elevate the JBL brand in these markets.  This role works across all customers – both national (in the regions) and local, as well as with all sales reps and marketing counterparts. 

Likewise, this person will lead Harman’s first college marketing ambassador and affiliates sales program.  This includes complete oversight from leading our agency to executing this new effort in ~10 schools nationally.

This person will dotted line into the VP/GM Americas because success in this role requires that they be in complete sync with the sales agenda.  They will assist the GM with creating selling stories for key business meetings and presentations (EMTs, Customer meetings, etc.) and help ensure that the GM can execute their business agenda.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Manager, Consumer Audio Marketing – Customer Marketing, will manage multiple agency partners.  At present, there are no direct reports, but in success, the hope is one direct in each of the five markets (5 total).  As well, this person will have significant influence with the Stamford and Northridge marketing teams to enlist their assistance in program execution. 


Job Responsibilities:

Grow HARMAN Consumer Audio Revenue in Key Markets via Consumers and Customer Engagement

  • Develop B2C and B2B plans in the 5 identified must-win markets (NY, LA, Miami, Chi, San Fran).
  • Develop marketing programs with retailers – both national (in market) and local, designed to drive their participation and elevate the brand experience.  
  • Incorporate 360 degree marketing and PR tactics to enhance these programs.
  • Leverage strong sales and retailer understanding to engage the right people at the retailers (national & regional) to deliver the most effective programs.
  • Work collaboratively with Harman sales to sell ideas into retailers.
  • Leverage regional consumer insights to build more effective programs and a richer understanding of what motivates consumers in these markets.
  • Drive maximum utilization of Harman’s portfolio of marketing assets – working with the heads of sports and music Mktg - to leverage them into customer programs.  This includes use of all sports teams, players, musicians, venues, merchandising units, social pages, etc.


Build Harman’s College Marketing Program

  • Create, execute and oversee Harman’s first college marketing programs in ~10 schools in 2019.
  • Launch ambassador marketing and sales affiliate programs. 
  • Manage college agency, select schools, vet ambassadors and sales affiliates.
  • Work with eComm to build sales affiliate tracking & redemption site.
  • Lead efforts around ambassador training (Harman University).
  • Note: This is a model that could expand to all business divisions of Harman (esp. Car Audio). 


Elevate The Selling Experience

  • Assist Region GM with executing their business and sales agenda.
  • Develop new programs for sales to use with customers.  Whether it be events and programs to sell, or creating ways for customers to use the Harman-owned assets, this person will add a new dynamic to how we sell.
  • Create selling stories including presentations and videos for the Sales executives to bring to customers.
  • Assist in customer meetings and sell-in as appropriate.


Marketing Excellence

  • Champion the customer POV.
  • Develop insights-based creative marketing ideas
  • Leverage Harman-owned marketing assets (teams, players, performers, venues, events).
  • Ideate and develop “never been done before” marketing ideas.
  • Identify strategic “tent-pole” promotional platforms that can be scaled nationally.
  • Elevate the Harman brands through buzz-worthy events and ideas.
  • Collaborate and occasionally lead cross-functional teams (legal, sales, finance, communications, etc.) and external agency resources.
  • Lead flawless execution across all programs launched in key markets.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years consumer marketing experience.
  • Prior experience in a large organization or agency.
  • Previous customer marketing experience is a bonus.
  • Experience selling programs internally or externally is a bonus


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Consumer electronics a plus
  • Proven record of developing and executing marketing programs (preferably with customers)


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel 30-40%.
  • Willingness to work in an office in Northridge, CA.
