Position Summary:

The Retail Store Assistant Manager will work in conjunction with Store Management in making decisions that contribute to the success of the store. The position will help oversee all major areas of the business including Sales Associate training and development, sales and overall store operations.  This person will share many responsibilities with the Management Team.  These responsibilities include helping to ensure store operational success, as well as helping to maximize the use of retail marketing, product placement and selling strategy for retail sales growth.  This new retail business will drive significant sales growth and provide a Harman promotional and marketing experience for diverse set of products across all Harman Divisions for our customers when they visit the Harman Manhattan store.

This position does not have any direct reports.

Job Responsibilities:

Sales & General Management:

  • Support a local store sales and marketing strategy and help manage daily to achieve financial objectives linked to sales growth, profitability and cost control.
  • Ensures the store is merchandised correctly to sell according to the monthly sales plan and that all promotional and marketing plans are executed as scheduled. 
  • Review sales results daily and take aggressive action to correct deficiencies and maximize positive sales results. Ability to identify performance gaps, root causes and develops and implements plans to close the gaps.
  • Assist in day-today operations with opening and closing as well as occasional inventory check in tasks. 
  • Lead by example, help customers and ensures that a high level of customer service is given and maintained, providing a world class Harman experience for each customer.
  • Act as a liaison along with the other Managers to partner with existing Harman Dealers to provide service and accommodate for client store visits.

 

Staffing and Training:

  • Recruits and hires high quality, experienced sales associates.
  • Develop and train sales associates that are very customer focused and motivated by very cool consumer electronics products.
  • Promote teambuilding through communication, motivation, and encouragement; providing coaching and "in the moment" feedback to other associates for their continued growth and development; and problem solving.

 

Merchandising:

  • Maintains an awareness of industry trends, directions and their relevance to customers within the Manhattan market.
  • Assesses and communicates to Harman management the appropriateness of current and future merchandise classifications for the Manhattan market.
  • Help communicate performance observations and offers direction to Harman management in areas of content and assortment, product development, presentation, and sale merchandise. Evaluates the planning and execution of marketing and promotional sale activities.

Expense Control & Loss Prevention:

  • Controls store payroll & overhead expenses by complying with budgets.
  • Budgets and monitors store’s controllable expenses and ensures conformance with established guidelines and objectives.
  • Takes appropriate action to achieve or reduce shortage goal as set by the Company.
  • Plans and recommends loss prevention action with the Harman Management
  • Ensures inventories are supervised according to Company guidelines.
  • Ensures that Loss Prevention training is administered on a regular basis to all associates

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Business Competence – Minimum 3 years management experience in retail store operations and/or high end retail management experience (preferably in the consumer electronics industry)
  • Be a Continual Learner  - Must demonstrate an understanding of new information and be able to seek feedback from others and be receptive to new ideas
  • Customer Focus – Make customer and their needs the primary focus of his/her actions, develops and sustains customer relationships and be able to quickly and effectively solve customer problems
  • Managerial Courage – Must be able to provide leadership to sales associates with an emphasis of leading by example.  Must have confidence to speak to other managers, as well as with executives and direct reports while expressing opinions and thoughts 
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills – Must have ability to understand others and communicate effectively, and be able to apply these skills to teach and coach the team.
  • Consumer electronics and audio knowledge – experience using audio electronics or products within retail or music industry
  • Strategically and operationally strong – Ability to synthesize complex information into a simple strategy and then execute and communicate against this strategy.
  • Strong consumer products orientation – Keen understanding of consumer wants and needs that can be effectively applied to creating market-winning retail sales strategies.
  • Solid planning and organization skills – Ability to manage complex projects and schedules necessary with this retail management role.
  • Good collaboration skills – Ability to effectively collaborate with people and teams from all functions within Harman plus full range of industry consumer customers.
  • Demonstrated creativity and out-of-the box thinking – Constantly pushing new ideas and programs to solve sales and market challenges.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel less than 10% of the time.
  • Willingness to work in a retail store in Manhattan, NY.
