Industrial Designer (m/f)

In the role of the Industrial Designer, you will be responsible for the Industrial Design of Harman’s branded car audio solutions. You will be creating, developing and managing the design evolution of multiple Harman premium brands, including harman/kardon, JBL, Infinity, Lexicon, mark levinson, Revel, AKG and licensed business such as Bowers & Wilkins, CANTON, CLASSE, Bang & Olufsen and B&O PLAY. In collaboration with our engineering- and marketing-team you will envision and design holistic car audio experiences for Harman’s premium brands.


Your Tasks:


  • Develop and nourish Harman’s credible audio brands
  • Manage & lead industrial design related projects and deliver compelling presentations
  • Translate Harman’s rich portfolio of brands into holistic car audio design experiences
  • Manage & lead communication with design team and stakeholders across various locations.
  • Envision & visualize innovative car audio experiences for Harman’s premium brands
  • Understand, improve and evolve existing brand design guidelines
  • Develop future brand design language strategy
  • Implement design language for each brand and position as 'best in class' in the automotive audio business. Upon request and approval, the Industrial Designer will develop the design language for other parts of the SBU Audio group
  • Understand and design for manufacturability and cost targets.
  • Present and communicate design concepts  through compelling brand related presentations
  • Support with sketches, Photoshop & 3D renderings to marketing and brand managers, same as to customers

  • Develop 3D surface files to transfer to mechanical engineering.
  • Work concurrently with Engineering to streamline the developmental process
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with other discipline team members and customer or supplier contacts
  • Develop junior talent in the Harman Car Audio Design Team
  • Develop methods and processes to improve efficiency and competence levels
  • Collaborate with Harman Consumer Design Team to create overarching brand experiences


Your Skills:


  • Masters/Bachelors or certificate Industrial Design
  • 3-5 years of Industrial Design experience
  • Experience with material cost and finishes, manufacturing processes, tooling methods and assembly methods
  • Ability to communicate ideas through sketches, foam models and photorealistic renderings
  • Proficient in Rhino & Alias CAD Modeling, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of brand values and capable of translating into tangible & holistic car audio design experiences
  • Capable to adapt & create brand related design languages in correspondence to the target car interiors
  • Result-orientated and a motivated team player
  • Outgoing, passionate and with an excellent sense of humor
  • Ability to communicate creative ideas at a high quality level
  • Good written and verbal communication skills both in German and English
  • Flexible in terms of tasks and responsibility
  • Ability to build relations and work independently
  • Self-motivated, passionate about audio and high sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time
