Position Summary:

The Software Platform Owner leads the strategy, development, and implementation of the CAR Audio platform software designs to meet the goals of the organization.  This leader is a key change catalyst driving continuous improvements in overall quality, cost, and efficiency of the SW platform engineering team.  As the India Engineering Site Lead, this role is also respsonible for ensuring that the local teams are fully supported with facilities and equipment, handling escalation for any local personel activities, driving functional alignment between engineering teams in India and engineering teams outside of India, and driving overall development execution to meet project needs.  The Site Lead responsibilities are both technical and administrative to ensure that the engineering team can perform as a world class organization.   

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Software Platform Owner will directly and/or indirectly lead a global product development team of approximately 40+ people.  Project management and engineering teams are primarily located in Bangalore, India and Suzhou, China.   As the India Engineering Site Leader, this role will indirectly lead approximately 400 software engineers and engineering leaders located in Bangalore, India. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

Software Platform Owner

  • This role is the leader of the software platforms and is responsible to deliver a flexible, scalable and high quality SW platforms to be included in all automotive amplifier products.
  • This role is the direct manager for the Software Platform Owner’s for each of the software platforms cover both vehicle interface control and digital signal processing (DSP) software. 
  • Ensure that all product delivery actions stay within budget, quality and time constraints
  • Serves as an escalation path for all deviations to the platform delivery plan and derives corrective actions for staying within SW platform demands
  • Ensures that the Global Car Audio SW platform is in alignment with the Car Audio HW platform both on Pre-configured products as well as on fully customized projects based on building blocks
  • Align with the Global System department to define the best possible SW platform and adapt for the needs of customization projects
  • Define the technical vision of the platform as a product and make sure that the platform is conformal to SBU car audio strategic business demands
  • Takes responsibility for flawless integration of all SW platform elements, especially the µC-modules, DSP-modules and interfacing to the Global Tuning tool
  • Take responsibility for creating platform roadmaps best serving the feature demand of customization projects
  • Ensure that all SW platform products are delivered in alignment with the needs of the internal customers
  • Represents the SW platform towards all levels of managements of the GPDC and REC
  • Supervises the execution of platform projects by monitoring development teams in µC and DSP with both solid lines as well as dotted line reporting in hybrid matrix organization
  • Take responsibility that all teams are staffed according to the needs of Platform Product delivery
  • Interfaces to the management of customer for all platform related topics
  • Make sure that the platform optimizes the time to market KPI of new features
  • Make sure platform development is executed against highest coding and execution standards complaint to ASPICE levels up to 3
  • Approves official platform releases into customer projects
  • Manages internal SW testing and optimizes the KPIs for platform product quality
  • Aligns with SW validation to ensure adequate staffing of platform validations

Engineering Site Leader

  • As site lead, this role is responsible for ensuring that capcity is available for engineering activitives, teams have the correct equipment, local processes are followed, and the general working environment meets or exceeds the needs of the team.
  • Lead the human resource planning activies such as evaluations, succession planning, people development, and merit planning for the Bangalore site.
  • Ensure compliance for local and HR activities across the engineering teams in Bangalore, India.
  • Hire, coach, and develop high-performing talent in the software engineering leadership ensuring success of each team member.   
  • Support the engineering strategy in relation to technical designs, process, tools, and execution.
  • Local extension of the exectutive leadership for the Bangalore development teams.  This includes locally leading higher level initiatives, providing technical and administrative leadership to all development teams, and driving activities to improve team performance in quality, cost, and timing. 
  • Serves as the top point of escalation into and out of the India Engineering center.  
  • Lead and support the annual budgeting process for equipment and resources as it relates to the Inida Engineer Center. 
  • Develop resource plans, track hiring status, create innovative recruiting methods in order to attract the best talent to Harman, and develop strategies to retain our talent. 
  • Coordinate with product development leaders across global engineering to ensure that functional strategies are aligned with the engineers in Queretaro. 

 

 

 

Qualification and experience:

  • Degree in Technical Studies, preferably in Computer Science, PhD appreciated
  • 15+ years experience in automotive embedded SW development including AutoSar based architectures, processing on DSPs and Car Network system integration
  • Experience in Product Management of SW products is an advantage
  • Execellent communication skills towards all levels of management including customer management
  • 10+ years experience in working in international teams, especially out of India, China, Europe and North America
  • 10+ years experience in platform based SW development
  • 5+ years experience in leading teams >30 members
  • 5+ years experience in the execution of multiple parallel projects
  • Fundamental knowledge of software architecture and design both on µC as well as on DSP matters
  • Excellent knowledge of object-oriented software development using C/ C++
  • 5+ years experience in the field of SW security and functional safety requirements from ASIL-A to D
  • Knowledge in one of the following areas or similar complex systems and technologies is required: Embedded systems, Infotainment solutions, Multiprocessor architecture, Multimedia products (Knowledge in DOORS, JIRA, PROCOM or EA is an advantage)
  • Knowledge of communication bus architecture like CAN, Ethernet/AVB, A2B, MOST, etc
  • Good network to supplier base of tools and third party modules like AutoSar is an advantage

 

Preferred Qualifications and Behaviors:

  • Master’s in related engineering field, Ph.D. and/or MBA
  • Experienced with product development of complex electronic systems including embedded software
