Director Linux Product Manager

General Description:

As a Director of Linux Product Management, you will guide a matrixed, cross-divisional team to analyze market trends, competitive landscape, customer needs, and technology trends to develop and maintain HARMAN’s Linux product roadmap.  You will define which open source packages are needed and govern HARMAN’s open source process, collect and prioritize product requirements from HARMAN business units, publish and maintain HARMAN’s Linux roadmap, and market HARMAN’s Linux roadmap to internal and external customers.  You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.  You must enjoy spending time in the market and with the business units to understand what the market needs, and find innovative solutions that drive profitable growth.

 

You must be well-spoken and able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization - both within HARMAN, with key partners, and with internal and external customers.  You will collaborate with other organizations to define product requirements, product positioning and value propositions, solution roadmap, project scope, and validation requirements.  You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for HARMAN’s Linux product line and work closely with other HARMAN teams to execute on programs.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Manage HARMAN’s open source process, including (but not limited to) the Open Source Approval Process, the Interface Management Process, and the OSS Vulnerability Management Process.
  2. Colalborate closely with HARMAN business units to collate, prioritize, and document the requirements for HARMAN’S Linux platform and publish a time-based roadmap.
  3. Create and maintain the overall business case for HARMAN’s common Linux platform to prioritize investments and measure ROI.
  4. Collaborate with the Connected Car Linux team to ensure that the requirements are met for each committed feature release according to the scope documented in a Statement of Work.
  5. Be the principal point of contact between HARMAN and internal and external customers, including driving presentations, leading regular interactions, ensuring timely and accurate customer responses to RFI/RFQ/RFPs, and communicating HARMAN’s vision, roadmap, and portfolio.
  6. Along with their team, be responsible for market research and competitive analysis.  Be an expert on the competitive landscape and relevant technologies to position HARMAN as a trusted technology partner and market leader. 
  7. Analyze and recommend potential partner relationships that enhance Harman's solutions.  Drive the strategy and engagement with selected partners to align product roadmaps, timelines, and business models
  8. Champion and lead the Change Review Board that will evaluate all proposed changes to HARMAN’s Linux platform and determine which changes will be adopted.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

  1. 5-10 years experience in product planning for either consumer electronics or automotive products
  2. Experience with market research and competitive analysis.
  3. Knowledge of Linux and Open Source Software models.
  4. 5-10 years experience with RFP/RFI/RFQ responses.  Experience in presenting to the customer.
  5. 5+ years experience managing dynamic teams
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  7. Proficient with PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and working knowledge of Doors and Rhapsody.
  8. Technical degree and Masters or equivalent experience preferred

    1. Strong background in Product Management, Engineering, Strategy, and Business Development.
    2. Deep understanding of embedded hardware and software architectures.
    3. Expertise in wireless and automotive technologies as well as cloud-based services.
  2. Degree and/or Training and specifically defined educational equivalents
    1. Bachelor or equivalent in Electrical or computer engineering
    2. Masters in engineering and MBA preferred
  3. Specific Prior Experiences
    1. Senior Engineering, Product Management, or Technical Marketing roles in wireless or automotive companies
    2. Experience building and deploying embedded software to consumer or automotive electronics

    1. Big picture vision and ability to communicate this vision to technical and business audiences.
    2. Capable of leverage business intelligence and analytics to drive data-driven roadmap.

    1. Strong communicator that can work effectively inside and outside the company, across organizations and organizational hierarchies, and with customers and partners at all levels.

  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time
  • Willingness to work in an office in Bangalore, India
  • Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test
