The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that quality and other customer quality service requirements are satisfactorily met for infotainment systems supplied to OEM’s in Japan. Tasks and support will span all phases of program lifecycle; from early development, pre-production phase, launch, field quality, and to after-sales warranty support. The position requires close interaction and coordination between OEMs and HARMAN support teams located globally to ensure quality targets and requirements are fulfilled.



  1. Maintain an expert knowledge level of customer quality requirements including SQAM deliverables for specific customer programs. Ensure these requirements are clearly understood and are met by HARMAN.


  2. Maintain an excellent overall knowledge of HARMAN processes, products, and systems to ensure effective coordination and closure of any quality related issues with our customers.


  3.  Meet with customer representatives regularly to report corrective action reports and update customer about on-going quality improvement activities, and obtain customer feedback.


  4. Maintain regular communication to follow-up on units returned for analysis and work with cross-functional teams on corrective and preventive actions. Champion and lead issues to effective closure and offering strategic advice and scenarios to best manage issues.


  5. Prioritize, initiate and track issues to ensure they are responded and closed in an effective and timely manner. Arrange video-conference and telephone/web ex conference meetings when necessary.


  6. Prepare regular summaries of assembly plant warranty issues and corrective action status at frequencies required by our customers; in addition to preparing internal weekly and monthly reports in requested formats.


  7. Ensure that improvements to prevent defects are reflected in company products, processes and control systems (FMEA, Control Plans, Best Practices and in DFA Guidelines etc).


  8. Support customer audits of the company's quality systems and processes, and participate in self-audits when required to identify opportunities for quality improvement.


  9. Support and participate in QRE (Quality Resident Engineer) related activities for new vehicle programs as requested by the customer.


  10. Involve early in product development cycle to ensure quality requirements are met, interacting with the development team, and participating in internal and external Design Reviews (DR’s) as required. And provided inputs and support for APQP related activities and document submissions to customer.


  11. Prepare plans for site support activities for new program launches at customer assembly plants. This includes the preparation and set up of test jigs.


   12. Establish and maintain a field support system that meets the needs of HARMAN and

         our customers.  This includes undertaking dealership visits, participating in dealer scrambles,

         conducting preliminary testing bench and diagnostic analysis of field returns as required (including 

         0-Km), setting up and coordinating third party service providers, establishing and maintaining 

         appropriate databases and records, analyzing and monitoring, preparing summary reports for internal

         and customer presentation.


   13. Preliminary bench check tasks include:

  • Interface external devices to a microprocessor system and apply appropriate software to obtain desired interface performance.
  • Perform accurate and valid parameter measurements with industry standard test equipment while observing standard safety practices.
  • Troubleshoot electronic circuits from schematic diagrams and blueprints.
  • Basic check of operational and visual check of transducers.
  • Identify improvements to bench and troubleshooting methods.


   14. Ensure Harman participation in returned parts reviews that are held at our customer facilities and in 

         annual negotiations for warranty cost settlement based on customer sales agreeements. 


   15. Identify and prepare capital budget estimates to improve and upgrade equipment capabilities to support

         business requirements.



Completes other related duties as assigned by the Japan Quality Manager or their delegate.




Bachelors Degree in Electronics (preferable), Electrical Engineering or in Mechanical Engineering is required.



A minimum of seven to ten years of work domain level experience preferably obtained in the automotive sector or in consumer electronics industry is required, with direct experience working in quality is required. Knowledge of high volume manufacturing production processes, electronics and assembly is required. Candidate should also have experience and capabilities to communicate and working smoothly in multi-cultural and lingual environments with overseas teams. Competent skills or aptitudes using test equipment such as oscilloscope, signal generator, multi-meter will be considered an asset. Any kind of software programming skills is also a desired skill although not absolutely required. General knowledge and expertise with quality issues and suppliers of electrical / mechanical components is required.



Certifications in quality engineering or in electronic diagnostics are highly desirable but not absolutely essential. 


Language Skills:                   

Excellent proficiency level to communicate comfortably and effectively in both spoken and written Japanese and English is required. Some language skills in other languages such as Chinese would be very advantageous.



Excellent PC skills using MS Office Suite are required. Domestic travel and occasional international business travel is required. A full driver’s license is required (Japan and International Driving Permit).
