Position Summary:

The job responsibilities as a Senior Optical Engineer links into the development of leading products and solutions for automated, intelligent lighting. The optical design is used in stage lighting, video products, and architectural applications. For this, the Senior Optical Engineer need strong attention to detail and interactions between the optical design and the entire system incorporating electronic, software and mechanical design. Applying well-founded experience, the Senior Optical Engineer is capable of driving the optical design, in cooperation with the team, to achieve outstanding performance in light-output and quality, as well as the electro/mechanical performance required to enable successful, market leading products. The role requires the ability to define, plan and execute the optical engineering part of technology, platform and NPI projects - to enable new lighting products.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The job responsibilities as a CoC Senior Optical Engineer links into the development of optical Concepts, Platforms and Technologies enabling market leading products and solutions for automated, intelligent lighting. The Senior Optical Engineer has to work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and provide optical support to solve complex technical challenges – in order to secure an outstanding optical performance that can play up against high business requirements.

This entails:

  • Drive design of optical solutions for light in new product developments.
  • Actively engage with the business to understand emerging business needs, to discover cutting edge optical solutions and technologies, and to enable new platforms and products.
  • Enable development of scalable and re-usable optical platforms.
  • Specify and drive verification of optical designs, covering optical tests and measurements, as well as robustness tests related to optical components.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal- and communication skills and be able to work in global product teams to deliver optical designs incl. use cases, specifications, definitions, cost targets, time lines and project deliverables.
  • Ensure that technology and platform requirement specifications are created, understood and executed upon.
  • Act as mentor in own domain, and across disciplines.
  • Must be a proactive self-starter and team player and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment.
  • Lead engineering risk assessments, define and execute proper technical risk mitigation plans, problem identification and troubleshooting.
  • Drive continuous improvement of platforms and processes
  • Provide estimates for discipline related work packages to project management within product development projects.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Physics, Optical engineering, Nano science or similar.
  • 5+ years’ relevant engineering experience (e.g. hands-on optical design, prototyping, and test).
  • Proficiency in optical design within both imaging and non-imaging optics in Zemax, Lighttools or similar simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with a math program/programming language (Matlab, Labview, Python, C++, etc.)
  • Analytical and pro-active decision making based on facts.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make decisions and follow scientific methods.
  • Subject matter expert to support business needs
  • English, spoken and written.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in collecting and analyzing data.
  • Ability to actively work with a global team/project team and communicate effectively across borders.
  • Ability to connect the dots between own tasks and project/team deliverables, work proactively and independent, and engage in technical debate with other functions.
  • High understanding of tolerance-critical optical design.
  • Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team and be willing to take on responsibility, follow through and keep multiple simultaneous assignments on schedule.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willingness for occasional travel to other Harman Pro development centers.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on occasion
