About the Role
Harman seeks a highly skilled and versatile Principal Product Design Engineer to join our team. This unique role combines the responsibilities and skills of a seasoned product manager, front-end software engineer, and UX designer, serving as a central point of coordination for UX design efforts across our software organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in UX design, front-end development, and product management, along with excellent coordination and communication skills.
About the Team
You will report to the Sr. Director of Software Engineering
What You Will Do
Act as a liaison between product management, engineering, and UX design teams, facilitating communication, collaboration, and alignment on UX priorities and deliverables.
Lead the design and development of intuitive, user-centered interfaces for desktop, mobile, and web applications, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.
Translate product requirements and user feedback into wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that effectively communicate design concepts and interaction flows.
Work closely with front-end engineers to implement UI designs and ensure consistency, usability, and accessibility across all software applications.
Partner with our Test Validation team to ensure quality and reliability through automated and manual testing.
Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and iterate on designs based on user feedback and insights.
Drive continuous improvement of UX processes, tools, and best practices within the software organization.
Provide mentorship and guidance to members of the UX and front-end engineering teams, fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
What You Need
Proven track record of successfully coordinating UX design efforts across cross-functional teams and delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.
Passion for user-centered design, innovation, and continuous improvement.
10+ years of experience in UX design, front-end development, enterprise software development, and product management roles.
Previous experience working with 3rd party development and UX design organizations.
Ability and desire to lead a small team of UX designers.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or related field.
Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar.
Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as Angular and Qt.
Familiarity with WebGL or other similar 3D modeling technologies a plus.
Experience with agile development methodologies and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, or Figjam/Miro.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate design concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels.

Pay is based on a wide range of factors, including, without limitation, skill set, experience, training, location, and business need.
