About the Role

The Senior Manager, Product Benchmarking is responsible for defining and ensuring effective execution of Harman product benchmarking strategy across HARMAN Automotive division considering all regions, business units and customers. This role involves extensive cross-functional collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, business units to evaluate Harman products in comparison to competitor products by thorough driving through assessment and market insights of: 

  • High technology products with an annual spend of +$4000M  

  • Functionality 

  • Material 

  • Licenses  

  • Process 

  • Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) 

  • Carbon footprint

 

The role will be responsible to improve overall profitability, sustainability and growth of the division by: 

  • Developing and implementing competitor product benchmarking strategies, methodologies, and frameworks. 

  • Driving a detailed teardown analysis to identify performance gaps, best practices, and areas for improvement.  

  • Lead the team in analyzing and interpreting benchmarking data, identifying key insights. 

  • Enabling value management and product development teams with insights into industry best practices.

  • Ensure operational excellence of HARMAN Automotive’s product benchmarking team.

 

The role is responsible for enabling the organization to deliver +$150M EBIT improvement over multiple years to ensure divisional level profitability and growth goals. 

 

Your Team 

The Product Benchmarking team consists of highly skilled team members with engineering/manufacturing backgrounds and deep expertise in electronics and semiconductor products. The Product Benchmarking Lead will report to the Product Value Analytics & Benchmarking Lead and will have a global team of 5 direct reports and no indirect reports.

 
What You Will Do  

Develop and execute Harman product benchmarking strategy for Harman Automotive:

  • Lead the formulation and execution of benchmarking strategies that align with the objectives, processes, and accounting of our Automotive division to reach profitability & growth goals.

  • Define and deliver competitor benchmarking of new HARMAN programs/products by identifying and assessing total value of the product.

  • Ensure seamless transition of benchmarking assignments at new product to Product Value Analytics team and Automotive Value Engineering.

 

Establish Harman in-house product benchmarking library supported by data driven market analysis:

Develop and lead a team of benchmark engineers with product related, multiple commodities/systems industry experience on high technology products such as: 

  • Digital Cockpit 

  • Connectivity modules 

  • Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) 

  • Audio Systems 

  • Amplifiers 

  • Drive value improvement insights and able to connect competitor new technology & innovation to business needs 

  • Establish the vision, framework, processes, and methods needed 

Operational Excellence in Product Benchmarking:

  • Identify and address operational inefficiencies within Product Value Analytics lead

  • Drive focus of the team on streamlining benchmarking processes, synergies and enhancing overall efficiency

  • Enable a product benchmarking library to support value management initiatives 

 

Drive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders:

  • Enable the team to develop strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to align on cost strategies and collectively achieve divisional goals

  • Foster a culture of innovation and data-driven decision-making both within and external to the team, encouraging inventive solutions to intricate cost challenges  

 

What You Need 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience leading a team of product development/engineering/cost engineering/manufacturing professionals preferably in the automotive or advanced technology electronics industry.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing 5+ direct reports globally.

  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in reverse engineering and product benchmarking with a focus on cost/value optimization.

  • Familiarity with legal and ethical considerations related to reverse engineering.

  • Strong technical skills in reverse engineering tools and hardware/software analysis.

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.

  • Networking/influencing capabilities in a diverse cross-functional environment.

  • Technical competency in electronic products (Electrical, Mechanical, Semiconductor components).

  • Understanding of Design to Cost/Manufacturing best practices.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Experience with hardware and software security, programming languages.
