About The Role

Principal Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering Team to create Mechanical architecture for strategic projects, and customer projects, review and guide the design, establishing long-term strategy and technology roadmaps for AR-Heads Up Display technologies and components, as well as the short-term, tactical goals and objectives to ensure annual commitments and customer programs are delivered.  


What You Will Do

  • Lead parts of mechanical development of head-up displays (HUD) with best cost solution.
  • Responsible for material selection to obtain optimum thermal, noise and strength performance with competitive cost
  • Employ strategies to reduce thermal and noise component inside the HUD
  • Iteratively improve design to pass design (DV) and process validation (PV) cycles.
  • Interface with design teams locally and globally to ensure robust product design.
  • Participate in design reviews with customer (OEM) in design competition for resolving system implementation issues.
  • Apply past experience, lesson learnt and strong engineering principles to improve DFMEA
  • Release technical drawings and assist in prototype development during build trials
  • Follow customer product development milestones as well as internal program management processes for successful milestone deliveries and fulfill quality gates.
  • Benchmark competitive products, technologies, and intellectual properties.
  • Participate in the RFI/RFQ phase with requirement review and concept development.
  • Work closely with Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide strategic technical planning, interaction, prototyping, and leadership for company's long-term HUD business development together with cockpit development.
  • Build strong relationship and knowledge of the corresponding supply chain together with procurement team, quality team and global design teams.
  • Research, review, investigate, and identify emerging technologies.
  • Support global Digital-Cockpit and ADAS product and platform development activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to manage supply chain, cost, and quality of products.

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 8-10 years of Mechanical experience in HUDs or automotive electronics products
  • In-depth expertise in NX or CATIA software
  • Expertise in design analysis, DFM/DFA factors, BOM creation and tolerance stack calculations
  • Experience development during pre-production phase (DV, PV, root cause analysis, 5-Phase, 8D reporting) and production phase (support assembly plants, quality)

What is Nice to Have

  • Masters degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field with at least 4-6 years of post-graduation working experience
  • Experience in augmented reality technologies, flat-panel displays, head-up displays, or camera systems focusing on structures, plastics and optics.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding, metal stamping and die cast parts
  • Experience using FEA analysis tools for shock, vibration and thermal load analysis
  • Proven track record of IP filings, conference presentations, journal publications, or product development programs
