Building Belonging: Different Minds, Shared Purpose

At HARMAN, we strive to create an environment where all thinking styles are valued. One of our newest efforts is a dedicated space focused on neuroinclusion—built for belonging, mutual support, and shared purpose.

Why This ERG Matters

HARMAN Neurodiverse Network isn't just a program. It's a people-powered movement. The ERG was created to support neurodivergent employees and their allies through community, conversation, and connection. Early participants say it's already made a difference by helping them feel seen, heard, and valued. The goal is simple: build a more open and thoughtful workplace—together.

A Moment That Set the Tone: The March Event

In March, the ERG held a kickoff event as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week. It featured a powerful keynote from John Elder Robison, a leading voice in neuroinclusion. He shared his personal journey as an autistic adult and spoke about the challenges neurodivergent individuals face in the workplace, especially when it comes to feeling isolated.

"Suicide risk is significantly higher for neurodivergent people, not because of their diagnosis—but because of loneliness," Robison said. "That's something we can change. It starts by creating communities where people feel connected." He also shared actionable ways teams can become more inclusive, including small steps like peer-to-peer conversations and making room for different communication styles.HARMAN Neurodiverse Network ERG 1.pngOne meaningful moment came when Monica, a key leadership team member who played an essential role in shaping early conversations about the community, said the statement captured the event's spirit. Her steady presence and ability to connect people have helped set the groundwork for a space where ideas and individuals can grow.

People Behind the Progress

The HARMAN Neurodiverse Network is guided by a passionate group of team members, shaping the group from the ground up.

- Andy, Senior Vice President, Global Product, Engineering & Strategy

- Ganjan, Vice President, Platform Business Lead

- Monica, Director, Talent Management and Human Resources

- Claudia, Controlling Procurement Manager

Their shared commitment to building a true sense of belonging is already being felt across the organization, and their leadership is setting a thoughtful and inclusive tone, laying the foundation for a community where different ways of thinking are celebrated.

Executive Sponsor Spotlight: Andy

Behind every meaningful initiative is someone willing to champion it from the start. For the HARMAN Neurodiverse Network, that person is Andy, Senior Vice President of Global Product, Engineering & Strategy at HARMAN.

Andy didn't take on this role out of obligation—he took it personally. He believes that cognitive differences are not just valuable, but essential to how we innovate and solve real-world problems. His approach is simple: build spaces where people can think freely, show up fully, and feel like they belong. Through his guidance, the ERG is not just launching—it's gaining direction, credibility, and long-term support.HARMAN Neurodiverse Network ERG 2.png

Just the Beginning

This ERG is quite new, but the response has been inspiring. More events, conversations, and initiatives are already in the works. The momentum is growing, and so is the community. We're proud of the foundation being built and excited for what's next. If you're passionate about creating open, inclusive teams or simply curious to learn more, we invite you to join us on this journey.

Because at HARMAN, different minds drive better outcomes—and everyone deserves to feel like they belong.
